Hey guys, AT&T had recently pulled some serious shit on me that turned my bill from $49 to $242. TWICE in two months. These are not correct as I have added these minutes up and the company refuses to change anything, they insist I am wrong.

There's nothing I can do, and I'm pissed.

I DO NOT want to pay them. But I am buying a house soon, so I don't want this to effect my credit.

SO, will this effect my credit score, IF I DO NOT PAY??

Thanks all for your time. :rocks::thumb:

Yes. They will eventually report you to the credit bureau if you do not pay. Also, if you go with another company, you may get charged a huge deposit because you owe another carrier money, even one cent. Keep trying to get them to correct the issue. Complain to someone with more power than the local store workers.

Back when I had Cingular, anytime I had problems I'd contact the office of the CEO. The next day my issues were always resolved. You should try the same thing - it sounds like you're not getting any resolution talking to the call center.

^^Do that. US Cell. did some stuff like this to me and got it resolved.

Thanks everyone you gave some awesome advice. especially calling the CEO's office! I like that!

I called 3 times. Talked to 3 different supervisors. ALL of them were pompus prude assholes who wouldn't take the time to add up the minutes or even see they double billed me for the same month's cycle. I felt like I was talking to a machine, it was more then frusterating. Went something like this for EVERY 1 of the 3...

Me: Hey, I was calling to correct an overcharge on my monthly bill.

ATT: OK, what's the problem?

Me: Well, I spent all of 30 minutes adding up the minutes used and it seems you overbilled me for 955 minutes at .45 a pop. You guys also didn't include any of my rollover minutes past my 450 minute plan, and charged me twice for the same cycle. I have talked other representatives about this from AT&T and no one is taking the time to add the numbers. Can you help?

ATT: Yes, I'm looking now and it seems you total balance due it $539 from two months of non pay.

Me: Right, I owe you 2 months of pay, correct. But the amount charged is incorrect. Take a look.

ATT: Yes, sir I'm looking at your bill right now and it shows you owe $539. You went over on your minutes by 955 at .45 per minutes. You used those minutes therefore you owe us that payment.

Me: No, the bill is wrong, take the time to add it up.

ATT: No sir, I can tell you this is valid.

Me: OK dude I tried- Get me your supervisor.

Then the supervisor would just say the same thing..

Finally after 2 hours I told them I'm faxing the bill to my lawyer whom they will hear from Monday, and to transfer me immediately to the cancelltions department. A lady came on the line and said that she took the time to review what I had been saying, and concluded I was CORRECT. She re-credited me the additional $419 they overbilled me, and said sorry. I told her that this happens every month or two (which it does) and thanks for the help but I'm going to Verizon. Paid the bill and I'm done with it.

Anyone else have cell phone horror stories?

I had a issue with my T-mob, once. I called their top manager that was phone reachable and it was solved no questions asked. Do this, NAME DROP, call back to these people that wouldn't help. Get their names and employee ID number if they have one. Trust me, things will go your way. :)

Yea, i got one. ATT offered a early upgrade to the 3g iphone when it came out if you had a 2g iphone. Now the 3gs comes out, and you cant. So, the people who have been loyal buying now, 1400 in phones, in the past 3 years, they want to charge me an additional 200 to get the 3GS. F That. Im done with ATT and Apple. Im getting an HTC next time.

I started on the HTC "apache" , hands down the best phone I ever owned. I even cooked a new rom and had windows mobile 6.5 on it, with Slide2unlock, and icontacts.

Cell phone is considered "non-traditional" credit. It is like car insurance. They don't really report to the credit bureaus unless you DON'T pay. Traditional credit would be credit cards, car loan, home loan, etc.

Hey Tom clean out your inbox! Trying to send you a PM

I wanted to drop from my blackberry on ATT to a cheap phone because I lost my job. No dice, they wouldn't let me so I told them to stick the contract up their asses and went to Verizon.

I had an old flip open phone that broke at the hinge. I had payed for the "extended warranty" so figured I was covered. Went to the store and explained that my phone had broken and I'd like a new one. They let me know that the "warranty" doesn't cover this type of defect. Asked what does it cover and was told mechanical and electrical defects. I went on to tell them that the hinge is MECHANICAL. They disagreed. Left store pissed off and called Verizon. Spoke to many different people there (getting names and ID #'s along the way) but no help. Finally, one lady tells me that it isn't covered and there is nothing they could do, I exclaimed that the hinge is most definitely mechanical but no luck. They told me that I was "holding the phone against my head too hard and caused the damage that way." Luckily, I was due for an upgrade in like 3 months and was able to convince them to bump me up to immediately. Such a PITA.

I am in the Intelligence field in the Air Force and I almost didn't get my clearance because I couldn't pay my Sprint bill during basic. And they wouldn't let my dad pay it (who has the same name) and I couldn't call them. Bastards. Guy that was interviewing me for my clearance finally let me call from his cellphone. Kind of sucked. So it definitely ####s with your credit report. LOL

Here is what you actually need to do:

1. Write a letter to the corporate offices about the situation, keep a copy for yourself and send it certified mail to them. Include copies of your statements and any and all evidence that supports your claim. In the letter be courtesy and do not make empty threats. Explain to them that you are allowing them 30 days from receipt of this letter to correct the issue. Failure to do so will result in you contacting the FCC to file a complaint. State clearly in the letter that you are willing to pay the corrected amount in line with your contract, but that you refuse to pay the incorrect amount under the grounds that their error is causing the additional sum.

2. Allow them the 30 days to review and contact you back if on the 30th day the problem is not resolved and no correspondence is heard, contact the FCC and lodge a complaint and allow them to guide you and follow-up. If there is still no satisfactory response at the end of the FCC's investigation go to step 3.

3. Write the company another letter, keep a copy and send it certified mail. In that letter explain the steps you have taken in good faith to resolve this matter. Explain again that you refuse to pay it, and that if they attempt collection action against you and report this to the credit bureaus, then they will be in violation of the Fair Debt Collection act. Explain to them that each offense they commit is punishable by $1,000.00 fines payable to you, plus fines payable to the courts and court costs. Give them 30 more days to resolve the issue, documenting each contact you have.

4. If they have not resolved the issue by this point go to your local court and file a small claims suit against them for the maximum allowable dollar amount. Keep all your evidence in case you do have to go to court, as the court will require you to prove that you exhausted all civil negotiation with them. This includes the certified mail slips. Get ready to present your case. Now wait. The company will probably realize the cost of court far outweighs the money they believe they are owed and will contact you to offer to fix the issue. If they do, make sure you tell them you want to be reimbursed for the court fees as well. They will accept and you will have to write into the court to tell them an amicable agreement was reached and you wish to drop the claim.

Problem solved.

Oh yeah...

5. Terminate service and move to Boost.

fixed.

i cannot wait till my contract expires with at&t. they #### everyone.

i have been screwed by verizon as well. i'm going to try boost, since it's sprints prepay $50 unlimited everything plan.

I used to work for AT&T Uverse technical support.
When people ask for the CEOs phone number or "Corporate Office" we don't have it.

If you guys are having issues your best bet is just to be nice, get peoples IDs and fill out those surveys. That survey is the only thing AT&T looks at. If I helped 100 people and they did not fill out surveys and one person filled it out as dissatisfied; I would lose my job.

Reason I say to be nice is because the people you are talking to have nothing to do with your issue...we can probably help unless we actually can't. There are some things people would ask us to do which are impossible.

What does being nice have to do with this situation. This guy can be sweet as sugar or sour as a lemon, the mistake is on ATT and they need to fix it.

I am so sick of this if I make a mistake the company expects me to pay, if the company makes a mistake the company also expects me to pay mentality. Follow my steps above for resolution. As a long time customer service representative for Bank of America, I can guarantee you that will turn more heads then being nice.
