Well I have an EGT gauge installed in my 99 GSX and its about an 2" off the 1st runner on the manifold. I was always told that they should be tapped at the collector where all 4 runners meet Is this correct? What type of EGT's do these cars run? I am seeing 800-1000 cruising on the highway but I have never seen over 1300 on a hard pull... My cummins powered ram usually runs 600-700 on the highway

That just seems high to me. Have you installed a new manifold or still running 2g? I am about to port mine and put an evo3 o2 so hopefully that will lower them slightly...

Huh I was just paying attention to them on my way home from work and cruising at 65 I was hitting between 1150 and 1200 and idling I was hitting 800... I might have to look into a tubular to add when I put on my evo 3 o2

that was with the stock non ported 2g, i'm now significantly lower with the ceramic coated tubular...

Also if you dont mind me asking what type of headers do you have and where did you get them. How do you like them LOL

I have the autometer one tapped into the 1st runner. It measured from 0 - 1600F. On hard pulls it would go past 1600 to prob about 1650. I'm not sure what you can safely push the temp to but my engine seems to be fine. The guage broke about a year ago so I have no Idea what it is doing now.

the pacesetter, please dont be hatin  i've read every thread possible bout them and seems like 95% people dont like them cause say they'l crack, well....i've had em for quite some time w/o any problems what so ever and even reduced my temps a ton. even after an hour trip i can near touch them :thumb:

Wow that would melt pistons in my Ram...

There cheap LOL I will probably buy something along those lines LOL...

On mine (and generally what I've seen) it will idle at 600F-750F, cruise at 70MPH = ~1200F and after a hard pull, top of 4th = 1450F-1600F.

That is done on a stock 2G mani. in good shape (no cracks). 1st runner about 6" from head.

Your state of tune will have a big impact on EGTs.

I'm led to believe that 1650F is where things start to get on the verge of melting. When I was running 1.65-1.85bar of boost I was seeing max EGTs of 1550F.

HMMM, I know I'm running rich and getting some after combustion burn and I get 800 @ idle, 1000-1200 freeway, and 14-1500ish driving it hard. I would like to see mine lower, I think 700 @ idle and 1000 max freeway and 1300-1400 pulling hard is ideal. As I better my tune I expect it to come down a bit. 1500+ is high.

Ok glad mine isn't the only car running what I believe is high EGT's. I guess these little things just run hot...

Man that just seems so hot... I dont understand why all these cars run that way. I always wondered why you cant touch the hood after running these for a while...

I had my tap at the far right side of the manifold pipe near the water pump or power steering pump. Doesn't matter what EGT you use as long as it's accurate. On the interstate it's set at around 12000 to 14000 degree. The highest I ever seen was 17000 degree and that's when I begin to smell roasted steel. Some thing got very hot.

OK, the challenge has been set. Who can get their EGTs at higher than 17,000F?! Note that this is about 6,000F higher than the temperature of the sun's surface!
