So, I am just curious what the fastest street legal DSM is? Pretty simple question. But I do mean completely street legal. Cat, tires, vacuum lines, everything...

I'm mainly curious what the times/hp are. I was just daydreaming about this while pulling an engine this evening...

EDIT-
By street legal I meant- If a cop, or someone who knows the Federal Laws about emissions and whatnot, pulled you over and inspected your car, they couldn't give you a ticket. Because your car is "street legal."

I dodn't mean it can be driven on the streets. I know most of the people on here pull their cats and whatnot, but I am also fairly certain that, whether you have emissions testing requirements or not, it is illegal to remove a cat and run a straight pipe.

I also know that each state law is different. Maybe I should be looking into what the federal regs are.

doesn't shepherd daily drive his drag car.

I would doubt shep uses that as a DD... but I've been wrong about weirder things...

Sheps car was still street legal and sometimes driven on the streets when it was running 8's if I remember correct. I run minimal vacuum lines, no cat, etc. and my car is still street legal. Are you asking who has the fastest car that will still pass state emissions testing?

yea i think thats what hes getting at b/c every state has different emissions laws

i licence my vehicles out side the the main counties. i dont have to go through an emissions test.

I doubt that you'd be able to get a straight answer on this one. Technically it is illegal to remove a working cat from a car in most states (it may even be federal), yet no one on this site runs a stock cat. Furthermore, between states like MA that require no emissions tests on vehicles older than '96 (which I personally love) and people who have "friendly" shops test their cars, I would be surprised if a lot of the fastest street-driven DSMs were technically "street legal".

We dont have emissions testing anywhere in Wyoming, its very nice. And some more on the 'street legal' side, tires will play a big role in this. Cant drive on race slicks, but you can get some 'street legal' tires that are pretty much a slick with one cutout on the side. I would imagine someone is running in the low 10s and still able to run on the street with a different tune.

Just because you don't have emission tests doesn't mean it is legal to take the emission equipment off the car. All the emission equipment on a car is there by federal law.

I would say you are going to have to find somebody that runs open downpipe at the track and puts there cat and catback back on once they leave or one with a 3" high flow cat(which can be argued about being legal or illegal). Otherwise all the rest of the cars with stock cats are gonna be slow in comparison.

Well you can't drive a car w/o tires ROFL
All the fast cars have no cat, otherwise they will blow them out

LOL I could see shep driving his Ford 8" rear end around town in his DSM. That would be awesome, also to see the chute sitting off a dsm running on the street would be crazy.

I ran a 14.6 in my car with only a K&N filter. But even then, I removed the air can which is considered an emissions component and therefore not street legal.

So this thread should be renamed:
Fastest Stock DSM?

I think what the OP means is the fastest street drivable car.
That is used as a DD, or could be.
and isnt pulled over for illegal mods (not including no cat)
i mean come on, who uses those things anyways:D

A local buddy (and tuner/mechanic of Strictly Modified) daily drives his 9 second 2g Talon, and I REALLY mean daily drives. He ran a 9.59 on E85 and Q16, breaking the 35r record, but 9.90's on straight E85 and ~38-40psi as he does everyday to work. It's 100% street legal, uses DOT legal Nitto tires and a full interior. No cage, uncomfortable race seats, etc.

Qualifications should just be any dsm with a license plate with a updated inspection sticker on it.

Wow, I'm not sure if I want to race at that track or want to stay as far away as possible. Any track that lets a car run Mid-9s with no cage has a pretty suspect tech inspection, IMHO.

not to start anything but how can he race at the strip if he is running 9's and after the 11 second barrier the track and or nhra requires a 6 point cage at least
that is how it is in indiana and nhra
just wondering if it is different in other states.
like i said this isn't a call out just wondering
