hey ya'll

I was just wondering what the differences between 1990 and 1991 talons/eclipses are.

I have heard that the wiring harness is different. would that cause major problems when upgrading ECU's (installing DSM link) or wiring up sensors, such as MAP sensors or AIT sensors for speed density? I think I have read that some of the Pins are different on the ECU or something

Also, I have heard that the transmission is different? i think a different number of splines on the input shaft? is this true?

are there any other differences that I havent mentioned? As in the looks of the cars?

also,
Is it easy to put a 1991 tranny into a 1990 car if it is a superior tranny?

thanks,
John

the reason I'm asking this is because I was originally looking for a 91 car.

But I have a person locally selling a 90 model extremely cheap.

was just wanting to know what the pros/cons were for both models. and also, if there are any differences in looks?

BTW just read that the 90 throttle bodies are different from the 91's. "One of the better benefits of the 91-94 TB is that you can block off the FIAV." whatever FIAV is LOL (it the same thing as EGR??)

also, saw the fuel rail is different......is the whole intake manifold different?

Didn't you ask this same question over on talk last week?

yeah, that site is way too slow though, it won't even really load half the time it always says "server is too busy" so I can't really check. plus they're a-holes over there LOL

it probably won't load because they run everyone off so they don't have the sponsorship that they should for good servers haha

Throttle Body
TPS
ECU
Cruise Control is located in a different spot
Speedometer Registers starting at 5mph not 0
Transmission is Different internally as well as having a 22 spline output shaft to the T-case
Ignition coil has a tach adapter for the tach to work properly. It has a 4 prong plug where as a '91 has 3prong.
External air oil cooler

The 91+ trans will bolt up and the axles will fit fine. The couple things you might have to look out for are obviously the T-case on the '90 has 22 splines and the 91+ has 23 splines. You might have to swap shift cables and levers to the 91+ design. It's not really superior, just the parts are more common since there were more made and you can put Evo III stuff into it without too much modifications.

since the ECU is different....will it still be compatable with DSMlink? will I have to run a harness or something to convert it?

also, with the TB, TPS sensor and fuel rail being different....is the actual intake manifold different? as in plenum size or design of the runners?

There are little differences all over. We all know about first year cars and that is what the 90 is. Get CAPS and you can research then all.

If you have a 90 EPROM it will just work with DSMLink. If you don't, then you will have issues to address and several ways to do so.
