I was wondering if anyone can give me any advise on how to get my Turbine housing to break loose from the CHRA on my Garrett 50 trim? I am having the turbine housing coated and it seems that the housing is rust - frozen to the CHRA and I can't seem to get it to break loose. I have tried using PB blaster (soaked over night), heat, and trying to break it loose while hitting it with a wood block while in a vise and no luck!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Use a rubber mallet. That's what I used, and the hot side popped right off. The thing is though is that I was just taking it off to port it so be careful that you don't hit the blades.

What holds the turbine hosing on, vband or bolts? This will work if it is like the Holset with bolts.

I tried the rubber mallet tonight....no luck! I would like to try the long bolt method, but the bolts don't have room to be completely removed unless the turbine housing can be loosened enough to allow there removal.

Thanks for the suggestions!

i have a fp t28 i bought that i need to take apart, and i can't figure out how i can do this.

the cold side is easy, just a snap ring to remove. the hot side however i am puzzled by. there are bolts holding it to the center section, and i can't get them out. once i back them off as far as i can i am guessing the center section should slide away from it and then i can continue to loosen up the bolts a little at a time till they are all out. i have loosened the bolts as far as i can, and so far they center section has no interest on coming apart from the housing. is it ok to use break-free or something to loosen it up?

i am removing the compressor cover so i can reverse its outlet. the turbine cover has a threaded hole that needs repaired, and i don't want to fix it wile it's attached to the center section. i don't need to rebuild the center, i just want it far away from the shop that i'll be repairing the bad hole at.

Loosen the bolts and separate the turbine housing from the center section using a dead blow hammer. The rust tends to make the center section freeze up in the turbine housing. PB blaster or any other penetrant will work fine for the job.

I finally separated the Turbine hot side from the CHRA! After several days of soaking with PB blaster I placed the turbine side in a vise and tapped upward the compressor housing with a rubber mallet in a circular pattern and it worked!

Thanks again to all for the helpful suggestions! Much appreciated:thumb:

Let it soak over night in a nice penetrant (PB blaster etc.). A rubber mallet will help in the removal process.
