About 4-5 years ago I had my last Galant painted satin black and it turned out great. I ended up selling it only a few months later to get something more reliable to get to California.. Well that leads me to today, I picked up another VR4 and although the car was pretty much mechanically perfect it had a black front bumper, paint flaking on the fender and hood and a lighter green trunk and gas door... I did miss that black Galant from back in the day..
So memorial day weekend I pulled the trigger I had my buddy Luis come up from Mundelein and we painted it Satin Black. He painted my last car so I felt comfortable putting this task in his hands. I helped prep and mask the car but other than that he did all of the work.
I documented the event on my iPhone so the pictures arent perfect but better than nothing, I will have pics of the car all finished up asap, it started raining after I pulled all of the tape and paper off
The initial prepping and "DA"ing.
Wet sanding.
Taking off the front bumper.
Prepping the front bumper. It was silver in Japan then painted white by the first owner, then rattle canned black by the owner before me.
All wet sanded and scuffed but still dirty.
Washed and ready for paint.
The beginning of the masking process.
And the painting process begines..
We painted the bumper and grill last.
The only pic I have of it almost finished at the moment.. more to come..
