So, ive been lucky enough to get a HX40W from a wrecked truck in the shop. The car was running before it got totaled. I am going to be rebuilding this turbo and putting it on my new setup. The turbo is a 8blade, but I wanted 7-6 blade. I have a rebuild shop that is going to look over the turbo and do the work.
My question is should I have them change my housings/compressor/etc into the 7 or 6 blade HX40. What I am really looking for here is all the HX40 8 blade users to tell me how they like it, how much power your putting down/ mods, and what times you ran. I believe that the 7-6 blade HX40 flows about ~9lbs more than the 8 blade. 7-6 blade HX40 users I would love to hear your input also. Thanks Guys. Ill be posting some pics up of the turbo later today.

Here are a couple of pics with my crappy iPhone camera until i find mine.

HX40 is on the left.

8blade flows 60lb/min which is quite a bit of power. I would wait until you are nearing its limits, that way you know you can upgrade wheels for some extra flow capability.
I got a nice 6blade hx40 collecting dust because none of the vendors have bolt on housings in stock

I've got my HX40 8 blade running on about 8lbs of boost. Nowhere near its efficiency range but it pulls like my small 16G did on 15lbs. Starts building boost at about 3000 and hits the 8lbs at about 3600 with the bolt on housing. Stock 2G exhaust manifold ported to the 7CM, 2.5" downpipe to 3" exhaust no cat. I'm going to see what the 8 blade can do before I think about upgrading the wheel. I'd probably switch to T3 before upgrading the wheel.

Its not even worth the time you would waste looking for one! Just slap it in there and go.:D Like it was said before are you really going to be pushing it to the limts? If so why not step up to a bigger turbo?

squeak104 you do know your HX40 is laughing at you in your face right?:tease:ROFLROFL 8 lbs isnt even making that turbo work! Crank it up to at least 30psi!:thumb:

Yeah, I decited to stick with the 8blade setup. Now the only dilemma is to get the BEP housing or stay with the T3?

Oh I know trust me. Just made a move to the east coast from the midwest, just graduated college, getting married in 3 weeks, so money is a bit tight right now. And with only a pump and regulator I don't feel quite comfortable turning it up to 30 psi without injectors and link. Thanks for the advice though.

Good choice. The 8blade hx40 in the small bep housing trapped 139mph with 2760 race weight.

The 7blade in the small bep housing has done 685 whp, yes. But the 8blade compressor can do every bit as much as a 60-1 (PTE 6052, fp red compressor) or better. The 7blade or 6 blade upgrade is for when you want 100whp over a 600whp turbo :)

That LOOKS like the 19cm^2 turbine housing. But regardless, it's a t4 bolt pattern; not t3. If you stick with the stock turbine housing, definately run a divided runner manifold. You could buy the BEP large t3 bolt pattern turbine housing (.70 a/r). Your spool speed will be about 400rpms later than the bolton housing, but still would see about 20psi before 4500rpms. And it would be a GREAT pumpgas turbo, as it will flow more at lower boost. The stock twinscroll turbine housing with proper manifold would make it a nice pumpgas turbo as well. And should spool faster than the large bep turbine housing. But unless you have some decent fab skills, you're looking at lots of $$$ for a t4 divided runner manifold. However the large BEP turbine housing has clearance issues. The ERL manifold will allow the turbine housing to clear the block without a spacer, but other's don't. Some have bought an ebay t3 manifold and cut the flange off and reangled it and welded it back on to save some money on a manifold. They seam to flow fairly well. . .

Well, im running e85 now. So I will also be running it with my hx40. If I were to buy the BEP housing it would be the mitsu flange. If I stay with the stock turbo housing, could I just run a t4 manifold undivided with my divided housing on the turbo now? I found some DNPs t4 for around 500-600.

I think you'll be much happier with the .55ar bolt-on right now. It will require less modifying/money/parts to get on the car unless you're really handy with a welder. Plus once you are pushing the bolt-on housing pretty hard, you can go with a larger housing for some more flow.

Thats what I was thinking of doing that and buying the housing from TTT. I am handy with a welder but im no Jmf. I would like a exhaust mani with a wastegate flange on it instead of using the internal wastegate. Any suggestions?

^^^^ Buy ERL manifold, it is in fact $500, but has a provision for the WG, turbo has an excellent placement. Other than that, if you can welld, you'll make for yourself a pie-cut 3" v-band DP and could also weld the WG flnage to the ERL mani. My point is, if you have to buy a turbine housing, why not buy T3 0.70 v-band, instead of BEP bolt on. It is your call.

I would definitely suggest an external wastegate for whichever route you choose.
If you decide not to go bolt-on, I would go with the ERL manifold as mentioned.

Could I get the t3 .70 from the turbo trader if not, from where? I could do the pie cut dp, but wouldnt it be 4"? Also, making a pie cut is alot of time, rather than just welding some flanges on.

And if I do go bolt on? What tubular/ cast manifolds would be a good choice?

^^^ Yes, you could get a T3 0.70 housing from Nick, but try and TALK to him first. Not e-mail, direct contact. It does take a little time, but it is worth it, plus if you want to buy a Mitsu flanged mani with WG provivsion, doesn't make sense. I know mani is $ 500 + $ 225 turbine housing and you mentioned, that money is tight, but really think about it... Does a few... 2-300 dollars it is going to make difference???
Your wife is going to hate your car / JK, but true/ regardless of anything, so you better make it right the first time. Plus I think you could jump on the Team XXX Group buy, which is $ 475 shipped, I think. Look in vendors announcements.

Many have had good success with a ported 2g/evo manifold. I'm sure the FP manifold would work great too!
If you're going to spend big money on a manifold, you might as well go .70ar t3 setup in my opinion

Where else could I get a T3 0.70 housing from besides nick and for cheaper?? Or can I not? Ill take a look at the mani group buy and try and scrounge up some extra change. My girlfriend already hates my car LOL. But some how she will hate it less if I have a a/w intercooler? Guess she doesnt like the big fmic in the bumper. Thanks for the advice.

Yeah, ill check those out. Thanks

You could meet your goal certainly, but you would have very needless and annoying spool. Much faster spooling combinations would yield at least the same results. The 18cm^2 housing with an open header design is like running a housing twice the size of a bolton housing. . .

Try Bullseye Power, I guess. Just take your time and choose carefully.:D

Would the t3 vband housing come with a 3" outlet or 4"? On the hx40 currently, its 4"
