So I busted out my Transfer case and i put it on its side and atleast a tablespoon of metallic rust came out of it! what is this? is this signs of a failure?

Also, when i pulled it off of my drive shaft oil fell from the drive shaft input as well as the transfer case output.

what is the meaning of all this??

ok so after looking at both my transfer cases, the one i recently took off, I think it just needs new seals.

But I still dont quite know why the transfer case had rust in it??

OK so I pulled the transaxle off of the parts talon- there was no deposit of rust inside of it, and it was not leaking oil into the driveshaft. I just need to use a magnet to check if it is 22 or 23 spline transaxle.

Can anyone tell me if I can reuse my Transaxle with the large rust deposit in it?
Does the rust mean i ruined it?

Thanks all.

Thanks! thats what I needed to know. now I go back to pulling the second engine.
