I know there are other threads like this but none done recently that I saw. I am wanting to eliminate the 2.5 inch SS hi flo cat that is on the Talon now. All the places I have called looking for a regular bolt on flanged test pipe say they have been discontinued. They have 3 inch SS test pipes and 2.25 test pipes (to eliminate the cat on a stock exhaust system) but no 2.5 inch ss test pipes. I am not wanting to spend the money right now on a 3 inch downpipe.

There don't seem to be many options any more for 2.5 inch SS test pipes. All the companies I called discontinued theirs. Looks like I am going to go with the punishment racing 3 inch cat eliminating downpipe. I guess I will sell the Buschur racing 2.5 SS downpipe I have now. Is this downpipe from Punishment going to be comparable in quality to the Buschur racing one?

why don't you go to a local exhaust shop and get one made. It is only a ~14" piece of SS and two 2-bolt flange. I don't know how strict your regulations are in your state but there is nothing illegal if they just make it for you. However, it will probably be illegal if they install it for you. Just get it made and slap it on when you get back to your house.

Head north a ways. We don't have any emissions testing here and the shops are a little bit more okay with that sort of thing.

Otherwise there is an article on this site that explains how to make a test pipe, it is quite simple just buy some 2.5" pip and cut the flanges off the pipe you have. Measure and mark the pipe against the flanges under the car and have someone with a welder put it all together.

Test pipes don't really help much if you're running a small turbo. It will have little or no effect on the turbo spool speed and the real effects are in the top-end which little turbos don't have. So unless your going to a big turbo running boost a high flow cat is good enough.

you have to find a ma and pa type of exhaust shop not a chain store.

my local one just went meinke so they wont do any exhaust work.

but the cat isn't just local or state emissions it's federal. It's illegal not to have one on your vehicle unless you had like a 60's car that didn't come with one.

So when I got my 91 I got a 3" down pipe and already had a 2 1/2 " cat back but I didn't want the cat so I went to said exhaust shop and flanged my pipe took it home and welded the ends on her and I was good to go.

you could always grease the pocket of an exhaust shop and they would be a little more lienant.
