alright, so i got my kinetic fmic race intercooler today. but i have run into a couple problems, so i need your guys help.first problem is where the hell did you relocate your coolant over-flow tank to? also, what did you do with that stupid ass long metal power steering line? and last but not least, how exactrly did you cut your front bumper support to fit around this sucker, but also have that little bit of bumper support left? pictures would be great. thanks

I relocated my coolant resorvoir where my intake should be, routed my intake down towards the ground, and removed the power steering cooler and looped the line. For the bumper, I completely removed it and put an aluminum bracket there for support.

You can do it, just get creative! I got work soon so if you need pics they'll have to be later.

I got a mitsu overflow from an old diesel truck at a junk yard.. It is more boxier and i fit it inbetween my intercooler piping and the body and its held up by a harness LOL... Yup i loop the power steering line as well..
And honesty who needs bumpers on a car this old... If it gets hit then it is totalled... :)

Being that he has a older 1g (like me), we have to account for bumper sag with the support fully pulled.

The JMF race unit was my solution, but like most solutions everything is budget dependent. I got mine for a steal, otherwise I'm sure I'd have a hacked bumper support.

thanks for the reply guys. i have done many fmic installs befor, but not one that has the end tanks going directly back like this LOL. this thing is freakin huge too. but oh well im going to need it for my 35-40lbs boost. and yeah i was thinking of buying that jm race support, but i kinda need everything to be done by friday at the latest so im on a tight schedule. i have to go to bandimere on sunday, so i need the whole weekend to get my car dialed in for my new turbo, manifold, wastegate, watermeth, intercooler spray, intercooler, maf-t, etc. its going to take forever to get this thing dialed in the way i want it.

Bumper sag shouldn't hurt your times, so you can always ditch the bumper support and come back to aesthetics later.

Sounds like you have your hands full for the weekend, try not to rush it and do sloppy work though. I got mine installed this past weekend, the thing is huge! It does it's job but on my 14b, it still can't cool the charge air enough to get rid of knock at 20+ psi. Time for a bigger turbo I think...

Yeah that's the best option. The race bumper is worth it just save and get it. It's like 175. If you can afford to go fmic you can afford to buy it. That and liek it has already been said just cut and loop the cooler line hook ups back into the each other further up the line.

Pics always help this was on my old 91 Talon...

You'll see how I cut the bumper support

Hope this helps

way I figured if I did hit something I may not have the best protection but it offers a little bit more than removing the entire crash bar....Plus since the ends of the crash bar were still there the front bumper never flopped around...

BTW this FMIC was great on the EvoIII 16g on 28 psi

yeah im going to be running a buschur raciong ported and clipped dual ball bearing 20g for now at 30psi(hehe). but i took down the support to my buddy today who works at wyoming steel and he plasma cut the front bumper support for me.but left the front piece unlike jfzero eclipse LOL. i never thought of doing it that way though. i still need to figure out something for the coolant overflow tank. what did you do with yours? and did you use the stock one or what?

I just pushed it off to the side and zip-tied it. I think it's pretty secure there..

I plan on getting a longer hose for it so I can mount it elsewhere later, but for the time being it works fine there.

Nice install buddy. ^^^^ But the the way it is wouldn't cool a lot, cause more than half of the FMIC is covered, so very little, or no flow comes thru it. Regardless what everyone says, the more exposed the FMIC, the better. I know it doesn't look to good, or you don't want to cut your bumper skin/cover. What is the meaning of putting that big/tall/ of a FMIC and have it hidden... You probably cut the whole bumper support/which is for safety/ to fit that FMIC, but now stays like this, c'mon.

Agreed!!!

Before i cut my bumper the whole top half of my fmic that wasnt exposed to direct "wind" was hot enough i couldnt touch it. The bottom half that WAS was only luke warm.
After cutting however, the whole driverside, for the most part, stays cool and the pass. side is just cold LOL!

Cut the bumper unless you dont plan to run big boost!

You could always cut the bumper similar to what my friend Jeff did on his 1G. I know his is a 1GB but the concept is the same and works on a 1GA also. I think it looks a lot better than hacking the crap out of the bumper.

IF I would have kept the car I would have done a cutout of the front bumper but since I was getting rid of it didnt see no reason to put more time into it....

Thought my custom upper pipe would help some people. The tial bov is on the bottom facing the ground to get it out of the way of stuff.

I disagree a good old clean cut will make it look better in my opinion.
