So every cold start that I usally do, ends up with me cranking the car for about 10-15 seconds and then it cranks over and starts. When it finally starts I smell gas fumes and see white smoke. So I know there's unburnt fuel there. And also I know that im at least having fuel when starting. I changed the spark plugs, wires, alternator. ETC. With hot starts It usally just cranks like 2-3(just like a normal car)times and it starts. I dont have the fuel pressure solonoid. But I dont think that should have a difference with starting. What can it be?

Mine has a similar problem. It's most likely a fuel trim issue. The car is running too lean at crank so after cranking for a while, enough unburned fuel winds up in the cyliners for it to start. At least that's what I think becuase I installed a GM MAF translator on mine and it has a setting that richens the fuel trim for the first few minutes of running and it made a huge difference.

mine had a similar problem but i found out it was the coolant temp sensor.... every morning used to be a pain in the ass to start the car

How did you find out that it was your coolant temp sensor

There's a way to check the resistance using an ohm meter. I don't have a manual here with me but it's not hard.

funny story Steve. So everytime I work on my fuel pump. Ie replacing stuff. And I put everthing back. I go and start my car, from a cold start. And it starts right up! But only stays like that for maybe about 3-7 days. Then goes back, like how it is now

It really sounds like the o-ring is worn/cracked to me. This is taken from the vfaq on fuel pump install:

"Be careful when putting the pump up into the fuel feed line - the rubber O-ring should be lubed with some grease, oil, or spit (hey, it works) so that the O-ring slips easily into the feed line. If it does not, the O-ring can kink or tear, and the car will be hard to start after sitting a few minutes, as the kinked/torn O-ring will allow the fuel to bleed out of the feed lines. The symptom will be that the car will take several seconds to start after sitting more than a minute or 2, but starts right up if you turn it off and then immediately start it back up."

The symptoms he describes of a worn o ring sounds just like yours. When you replaced it, was it new? Did you lube it up before reconnecting to the fuel line?

I had a dumb vacuum leak at the nipple fitting on the throttle housing. Small tubing coming from the evap canister was cracked - 1/2" slit under the spring clamp.

Cut the bad off and that took care of my 15 sec attempted starts.

yea it was new. And it still had the problem. See mines is where even if I leave it for 2 mins and try starting it again. It will start right up. But maybe say, 3-4 hours of it not starting. The problem will happen again

My coolant temp sensor went bad and the same thing happened to me. I just grounded the two wires that went to the sensor and it worked fine

yeah thats the sensor , try to check it with a meter if its functioning

the one with the clip is for the temp gauge inside the car

your problem happened to me before and it turned out to be my CRANK PULLEY

have you checked yours? do check it and let us know

good luck
