Hi all, been a while since i've posted... but i can't decide on a new exhaust to install on my '97 Eclipse GST.
To narrow down some ideas, i want an exhaust with a deep growl sound, not a ricer honda kragen exhaust. ;)

I have been looking at Apex'i N1, HKS Hi Power, HKS Carbon Ti, and the Tanabe Super Madallion.

-I have heard the HKS's on other cars such as my buddies Acura RSX, and i've heard the Apex'i N1 on my buddies 1998 GSX. Both sound amazing.... but i feel as if the Apex'i N1 is over-rated and too easy to find on tuners these days. I want something that i can say is unique on a DSM and not too common.

So if anyone can please help me decide or give me NEW ideas, you're all welcome, and thank you all.

i'm running a full apex exhaust. sounds pretty good and gives the car a pretty decent flow but honestly i think the hks hi power is probably going to give you the sound youre looking for. my exhaust is actually prettttyyyy damn quiet compared to other cars. personally i think the hks has a deeper sound.

Thanks man, yeah I've been researching the Hi-Power and Carbon-Ti on YouTube, and from the sound clips... the HKS's sound deep and exactly what I'm trying to find :D

IMO......have a local exhaust shop do a custom 3" turboback.

You can pick the muffler....add a cat.....or even go to a 3" electric dump and make the car super quiet/loud when you need.

I have a Tanabe on mine and I love it. Long drives can get a little annoying, but short trips are a blast.

It's not possible to make a DSM sound "ricey". To prove this, remove your exhaust system completely at the downpipe and start the car....you'll find no "ricey buzz".

Don't wrap a ton of money into an exhaust system. The $200 eBay systems look and sound just as good as the $650 N1's, leaving you with $400+ to put into other areas of the car.

DO NOT install a 3" downpipe on your car unless you're planning on running a large turbo or high boost level. Do so and you'll be creating a thread a few days later asking how to cure boost creep. A 3" catback system is fine- keep the downpipe at 2.5" for now....especially if you're going Catless.

I dont know if you have looked at them, but Thermal R&D 3" sounded fantastic on my 2g. Just nice and deep, no cackle or popping... best exhaust i tried IMO.

+1

I had this same problem not too long ago ended-up going with the PR downpipe, 3" high-flo cat (magnaflow (ebay)), and thermal 3" catback. Had to get a few flanges cut and add a few welds but it sounds like pure sex.

Here's a quick video of a thermal (not my car), he's running the obx DP which some tuners advise to stay away from because of weld reasons. YouTube - Eclipse Turbo Back Thermal R&D Exhaust

Man, that thermal in that video is loud as hell. My thermal is stealth quiet compared to that. Last exhaust system you'll probably ever need. Nothing sounds better than a thermal with cams:hellyeah:

before i got my megan 3in i went on you tube and looked around and herd all the exhaust sounds on youtube there's alot then pick the one u like! my personal favs are the 3in megan and the apexi 3in:thumb:
