I pulled my motor and rebuilt it, hot tanked, all that stuff. Motor had about 10,000 miles on it when I drained the coolant out to put in an aluminum radiator. I had drained the coolant a few other times before to change the turbo and other reasons as well that made me have to drain the coolant. Every time I drained it, it came out just as clean as it went in. No deposits, no odd colors or anything. When I put in the aluminum radiator I figured why not put in some water wetter. Ran the water wetter for about 500 miles before I had to drain coolant again, and it came out rust colored and small deposits drained out with it. I don't believe aluminum rusts so the only thing I can think is its from the water wetter. I think I'll pass on the water wetter next time I drain coolant.

WW is awesome, its just synthetic glycol with a color additive. We have 5 gallons of it that hasn't been diluted my company uses in its air compressors.

True, WW reminds me of a "binkie" - just to satifsfy any cravings, yet really isn't needed.

basically, what WW does is to coat a hot surface to reduce surface tension so the water molecules can be release quicker off that hot surface - so the water can be more "wetter" than normal in extracting heat from these surfaces. But the slight percentage amount of heat extracted is so minimual, just keeping you system flushed and correct fluid mixtures are suffice in doing the duty in keeping the motor at a proper temp level of maximun operation.

..just something else to blow money on.....

Not to thread jack but exactly how much water wetter would be needed to drop your temp about 10 deg if thats possible. I always see the stuff for sale but never tried it.

I plan on running water wetter with my new set up this spring/summer with 60% of distilled water and 40% coolant.

Just run water/coolant. If you're overheating, you have a problem. Fix it. If you plan on racing, then upgrade your fans first to deal with the extra heat/stress. I don't like these additives. They're band-aids.

I dont have a cooling problem.

I am putting on my FMIC and a little protection would be great.

If this doesn't work I will go full aluminum radiator and 2 12" slim fans.

I didn't mean using it means you have one. I didn't have a cooling issue ever either, but when I put my FMIC together with the bigger turbo, I used a 12" Spal fan and a 10 degree cooler t-stat just to be safe. I'm just recommending doing those sort of things before doing additives.

^^^Every little bit helps. If your going to go through all that trouble of upgrading your cooling system to get the most out of it, why wouldnt you add an additive?

In the summer, I dont even run antifreeze. Just a non-measured mix of water and WW.

It says on their site to use WW w/ distilled water & at least 20% coolant for street use.

How much does the stock radiator/cooling system hold anyway? :hmm:

I was thinking of using 1 bottle of WW, about 3/4 bottle of coolant undiluted (not the 50/50 mix) & the rest distilled water. It sounds about right to me. Anyone have a different opinion?

WOW. U must have a huge radiator.

I flushed and filled the cooling systems on my civic and eclipse before winter. I done a 50/50 mix in both cars. I bought one container of undilluted coolant. After filling both cars I still had...like alot of coolant left.

I understand your point. But a properly setup cooling system won't need it. That's all.

I heard about people using just water and water wetter in there cooling systems for street use? i bought a bottle of water wetter is it good stuff or what? im gonna do a 50/50 and 1 bottle of water wetter is that right?....i have a 97 gsx and the temps out here are 60s-70s but summer is right around the corner so whats best?

Yes, your fine with water wetter.

I use a bottle in my car but just do us a favor and flush the whole system before you add it. new thermostat and flush you should be good to go!

100% water is the best cooling capability you can get. As per the instructions I use 80% water 20% coolant and a bottle of Water Wetter, it works great. The only reason you use coolant in your system is to prevent the water freezing and cracking the block at cold times and also to prevent corrosion of your radiator, etc. It never gets colder than 35 degrees where I live though so I don't worry about it. Good luck.

what are you getting for temps?

I got between 190-210 on the trip I took yesterday. If I turned the heat on and kicked the fans on it sat at 180 (autometer gauge mounted in thermostat housing).

I have a 50/50 mix

I use 100% water with a bottle of water wetter. In around town driving I see 180-185degs and at cruise I see around 170-180degs. If I get into really bad stop and go traffic I may see 195degs max.

I run 80% water, 20% coolant, and a bottle of water wetter. The anti-freeze is just there as a corosion inhibitor and to lower the boiling point of the coolant for me. I'm in the south Pacific though. Obviously you should be more cautious in colder climates.

you mean distilled water right? so fill up 80% distilled water then 20% antifreeze and 1 bottle of water wetter? the temps are 60s-70s out here in chicago so in fall i should go back to a 50/50 mix right?

Chicago? I'd stick with 50/50 or 40/60 year round. Pour the water wetter in first so it doesn't throw off you proportions. I've seen 2 motors get popped due to running little or no antifreeze during the summer and just forgetting to change it. If you are having serious cooling problems, I doubt your antifreeze/water ratio is going to solve it anyways, and possibly busting your motor just for the vague sense of "better cooling" in the summer isn't worth it to me. Just my $.02

The antifreeze is there also to lubricate the water pump. Which requires a timing belt job to get to. So You need to keep some antifreeze in your motor.
