Hahn Super 16g? or Hahn Super 20g? I'll pretty much leave it at that... i got a apexi N1 DP and Thermal R&D 3" catback and a stock evo fmic with hard pipes, maf translator, 3"maf and intake.. i dont honestly want to mess with tuning so i dont want a million trim turbo (mild exaggeration) about as far as i'd go with tuning is an SAFC or something.. but anyways any problems you see? which one would be better for me.. i dont have a HP goal i just want a nice quick DD that i dont have to work about blowing smoke so thick the person behind me cant see due to tuning issues.. thanks all help is appreciated

Hahn 16g/20g are piece of crap turbos. His housing may be bigger, but it doesn't flow worth a shit.
Forced Performance Turbochargers: Mitsubishi EVO III Big 16g Turbo
I recommend picking up an Evo III 16g, especially since they are on sale right now at FP. You'll want some portwork done to the housing to combat boost creep as well as a larger O2 housing. For simplicity I'll recommend a Keydiver chip for a tune KEYDIVER Chips - DSM ECU Tuning and perhaps a Wideband O2 + a SAFC for fine tuning.

yeah i got a aem wideband too i forgot to mention and i was definetly considering the keydiver.. and i might do an safc too.. if i told you i got a friend trying to sell me a hahn 16g for 400 would you still recommend the FP

The evo 3 16g has been proven time in time out... It is a great turbo and brand new from fp for 500 is a great deal... You will be happy with the 16g i mean the way you set up sounds you dont need anything bugger than the 16g...

I would also go with an MHI EIII 16g, it has worked great for so many people and for me personally.

There's nothing "Super" about Hahn turbos. They're nothing more than MHI 16G and 20G turbos in 10cm2 T3 turbine housings that were intended for use on cars with high compression ratios or large displacement. If you use one on a stockish DSM, you'll have all the lag of a big turbo without the top end pull. :boring:

I agree with what others have said- find a good deal on a used DSM bolt-on 16G or pick up a new Evo III 16G from FP.

Yes, I would still recommend over the Evo III 16g over any of those turbos as they are all inferior, especially the Hahn stuff which is total junk. Make sure to order portwork of the housing/internal gate area of the turbo when buying it because otherwise you may suffer from boost creep problems. As I mentioned earlier, now would also be a good time to port your O2 housing, purchase an Evo 3 O2 housing, or purchase a FP tubular O2 housing.

+3 on the EVOIII 16g. I've never seen a turbo this spool happy at part throttle which makes it extremely good for a daily driver. The TD05H turbine wheel is pretty nice and really opens up the exhaust side. I noticed a difference cruising on the interstate in terms of part throttle power, similar to when I upgraded to a 3" catback exhaust. Lot of good things about this turbo.

75% of street driven DSM owners looking for turbos should probably stop right here, me included. Below 3000 rpms its a little soft, but above that it is very nice. Top end somewhere around 440-480 h.p. @ crank depending on cams, fuel, compression ratio, supporting mods, etc.

I would not clip the turbine wheel though (ie. grinding away of the turbine blades to open up the flow path). It probably could benefit from it but would hurt the low and midrange. At least 660cc injectors at a minimum, maybe even 750cc injectors for some extra headroom. I wouldn't touch the wastegate opening either, maybe just radius the entry a little.

All you need to do is have them do a port job. You don't need to specify what needs to ported since the guys at Forced Performance know exactly what you need done.

Do not clip the turbo. That is a trick to get more flow up top at the cost of spool time and bottom end power.

E316g:thumb:
They can be found pretty cheap used and will last plenty long as mhi's are very durable
The tdo5h turbine flows enough to match the E316g compressor wheel so i wouldn't bother clipping the turbine. If it was a tdo5h/20g, i'd say clip it. Great spool and has proven it can go beyond 400whp.

The clipping is up to you. All it means is that they "clip" at an angle the exhaust side fins in order to create less backpressure and make a better top-end. It will also make your turbo spool a little slower. Remember its up to you not us.

Clipping a 16G will actually hurt more than it would help a daily driver. If you have 9.0:1 pistons or you're running 25+psi, then you may want to consider a clip in order to gain a little flow on the hot side.

I would also recommend DSMlink v3 or ESMlink for tuning that way you will always have room for improvement.

Do you get paid to make statements like this or something? He already has a maft. He could get a chip or make his own for a lot less than dsmlink. DIY eprom burning can be done for far less than $100. He has a 95, so hopefully he has an eprom ecu

I'm trying to think of all the non-16g sized turbo's released for DSM's. Off the top of my head you had the: FP t28/28, FP Big28, Big28 killer, IHI 16g killer, Hahn Super 16g, 17c, 19c, list goes on. Eventually the good old 16g wins out. It is kind of ironic that the EVO3 16g is so highly recommended these days, when a few years back the 50 trim fan boys were pushing that thing like it was crack. Times have changed.
