Just like the title says.. i'm looking for machine shop recommendations (used search, found nothing) based on fellow forum members personal experiences. I'd like to find a machine shop, preferably one with a Serdi for head work, that has an apparent good reputation, isn't going to take 6 months to get something done, and wont completely bend me over on the pricing. If you have suggestions for OR against specific shops in the area, please let me know. I don't really care about the location of the shop provided it's at least in the seattle metro area. (i'm not driving to portland or bellingham for machine work)

PINA in kent the best DSM place in wa.
Pina does machine work in house? I was under the impression they had someone else do the actual machine work. Do you know if he's got a Serdi machine down there for doing heads?

Edit: i called them and they do NOT do their own machine work. i would like to deal with a machine shop directly as i wish to be able to actually see the facilities and speak with who is working with my parts directly. this way if any last minute changes are to be made i am in complete control of any and all decision making and am not at the mercy of the schedule of a third party

X-Act machine in Bothell

excellent work on high horsepower 4g63 engines.

head work
block work
even converted a center diff to 4-spyder for me

John-

Thanks. I'll call them tomorrow and find out what kind of machines they're using, although if they're really good it may not matter. If anybody else has any suggestions i'd really appreciate it. I like having my options and machine shops DO NOT seem to have any sort of web presence. WTF

Highlands east down in renton. My buddy has his bottom block there right now and he keeps telling me how great and friendly the guy is and his work is top notch. As far as I know he does most of the machine work for PINA aswell.

Excellent! all great suggestions for me to follow up on. thanks a ton, guys! keep 'em comin' if anyone knows of any other reputable machinists.. let me know. It's much appreciated! Someone at work mentioned a place called DG Machine, down in auburn. If anyone knows anything about the shop, i'd love to hear about it.

I found a shop in Tacompton (tacoma) that has the machinery i'd like to be used on my parts. They seem to have average (read: reasonable) rates. I'll be taking my stuff down there, most likely. I'll be sure and update as far as the quality of work, demeanor of employees, etc. once it's all done! They even have a web presence at Performance Engine Development

I know a guy that does great work for real good prices, you just have to wait a bit as he is always very busy but he's probly a good 120 mile from you :-(

Yes Rob at Action Machine is good I work for Toyota and that is where we send all our machining to:thumb:

Looks like i just may have to change my mind and go with Action, since they're so highly recommended. They do seem to charge quite a bit more for their work, but maybe it's worth it, rather than going somewhere i know nothing about and have no feedback to rely on. I just picked up a core head and it looks like a couple of seats were cut too deep by someone previously, so i guess i'm delayed until i get a "virgin" cylinder head. I'm hoping to find one at pull-a-part in lynnwood this saturday. I really don't feel like paying through the nose for seat replacement when i'm pretty certain i can probably find a decent N/A DOHC head in a self service junkyard for $25.
