OK this is what happen to me today. I was on the parkway driving fine pulled off the ramp and happen to look down to see my oil light on. Only now do i see a lil bit of smoke from my car so i pull right over and find out my oil filter came loose. There was maybe a whole other qt of oil that came out as i was putting the filter tight again so there was some oil in there. Now i called dad and he brought me oil cause i didn't want to run it so low... I get back to my house and on my street i stall out when i came up to the stop sign. Right before i stalled i could of swore i seen the oil light and no other light come on for a second if that. Anyway i hear what i would call a rapping sound coming from what sounds/looks like underneith the timing cover or around there what did i break today?:ohdamn:

Hmmm.....does the car still turn over? With low oil pressure or volume, usually the bearing go bad first.

yeah it still turns over and i only did it once cause my dad said i gave it a lil gas not even 1.5k and it sounded almost if the rapping got faster kinda if you know what i mean.. So if the bearing went what do i have too replace???

Dont try to start it just pull the valve cover and see what came loose or broke, sounds like a rocker

Hey your the boss on that one i agree 100% i didn't want to start it until i knew but I didn't know where to check thanks so much/ I'll report back tomm cause it's dark already. So it will be that easy to see once i pull the valve cover?

If something is out of place you will see it,or you can post a pic and someone's gonna help you out.Now thats providing the noise you are hearing is coming from the valve cover,i wish you luck buddy.

I'd hate to be the bearer of bad news... But it makes no sense for your rocker to be broken?? This "knocking" isn't quiet I take it. It's not like you have to listen intently to hear it?

If it's loud, and increases with engine speed, you may want to listen a bit more and make sure its not coming from the bottom end...

Sounds like a spun bearing to me... And a spun bearing means a rebuild. If you can post a video, that would be helpful (and preferably not with your cell phone). Good Luck!!

+1 for rod bearing 2x engine RPM is balance shaft. you may save a rebuild if that is it by doing a BSR

that sucks, the bolt in the oil filter housing got loose once and i was loosing a quart of oil every 10 miles, couldnt quite figure it out where it was leaking till i had it on the lift. with lossing a quart of oil it shouldnt have done that much damage, are you sure when you got home the oil filter didnt come loose again? or somethings eating up oil

right now i walked away from it till tomm i am going to drop the oil pan and if i find nothing i am going to pull the valve cover. This car has a brand new tranny i put it in my self it shifts great. But that was $1500. Now this happens :ohdamn:

my car spun a rear BS bearing with similar symtoms. i found the BS bearing laying in the oil pan. i had to do a BS eliminator kit and a new oil pump cause when the BS tried to lock up it busted the oil pump gear and i didnt want to take any chances with that old oil pump.

No. there is a noticable slight vibration that you will feel the first few times you drive it but you will get used to it and never know its there. i actually just used the stuby shaft out of th bse kit. i left the front bs in the block and just left the bs belt off. ive done this to two cars now and they run fine. oil pressure stayed the same.

Or, never know its not there...ROFLROFL

Definitely drop the oil pan and check, could be the BS bearing as well. When you drain the oil, you'll see how low it actually is/was.

Just removed balance shaft in my car and didnt notice almost any increased vibration.

Yeah seeing the oil pan off the car with the dipstick still in really puts into perspective where the oil level actually is.....have to run it pretty low to be below the pickup.

No need to purchase bse kit actually if you have a cutoff wheel and access to a welder. Just hack the rear balance shaft off and weld the hole shut that feeds oil to the balance shaft bearing to avoid any drops in oil pressure.

JP bse mod FTW:cool:

I had something similar happen when i was still into honduhs. My oil pump shit the bed and i didnt know it. I was headed home one day and my oil light came on but went right off. I lived on a bumpy road so i thought it was just low so when i got home i filled it level and the next day i started it and got half way down the road and it started loosing power and rapping bad. I pulled over and towed it back to my house. After pulling it all apart my cams looked like rumble strips and my rockers as well but suprisingly my crank was fine and so were the bearings i reused the block on the next build. If u didnt drive it to far rapping like that u might be fine low end wise cause the oil is always down there. But odds are the rapping was ## head.:ohdamn:
