Any one ever done this? Ride around with the rear hatch removed? Iam thinking it would be pretty cool to do. Any laws agianst it or possible cop trouble?

If you have to ask It's probly illeagal. I know there are laws against riding with no hood. But you would think removing something like a hatch would definatly be illeagal..Whats stopping you from being thrown out of the car backwards, when there is no hatch?

My dad rode around without a hood in his Subaru cause he was painting it... The cops around here didnt say anything about it, but im sure its illlegal. I think that if you remove the hatch Its gonna make the DSM look kinda like a truck:p

Not to sure why. And hopefully my seatbelt would. Does the hatch have any structural Signifigance?
I thought it might as well, which is why posted a reply in the first place, but I'm not sure about that..

That would be kinda cool..a dsm truck look alike..

A convertable came that way. Not peple just cut off the roof and drove down the road. So cops wouldnt probly notice untill they pull up next to you at a stop sign or red light..

If this weekend is nice I will try it out. Windows down, radio up, should be bad ass. Maybe i will take some photos of the eclipse with no hatch and my 79 ranchero gt.

You shall, maybe I'll do it this summer with a bunch of friends!

And it would look more like a Chevy Avalanche IMO

I saw a guy by me with his Trans am hatch off all summer. It looked alright.

Here is some pics. This car is kinda hacked up but it gives you a little idea of what it would look like. I dont see why it would be illegal to remove the hatch, I mean Jeeps drive with NO doors. :hellyeah:

Or make it a Beach cruiser and put 2 more seats in the trunk area while the hatch is off.
You would have the first 3 row DSM.

That would be hot in Daytona this Spring Break!!!:cool:

I guess it don't look that bad....I might want to try this if I'm in need of a truck and no ones around...

I wanna see it on a 1g though. Maybe I will give it a try for shits and giggles, and a photo op...

PLEASE DO THIS (take pics)

i have always thought about doing this haha, i dont know why, but it always kinda reminded me of like AB flug supras or somthing since they dont have the hatch and just put a vertical rear windshield in the back..

judging by those pics though, it might end up looking like some kind of el camino tho

i was thinking more of 100 low lead, the lead is the extra kick that will take you to heaven.

1. It's not illegal.

2. The only structural issue is the weight of the hatch, you now have less weight on the car, nothing significant unless you drive like a jerk. Since the hatch technically just rests on the unibody, and is not actually connected, it is providing almost no support against swaying or body roll.

3. It looks like crap.

4. It will be louder, there will be almost no noticeable difference in how the air around you moves into the car since it is after the driver seat.

I vote for physics. Did someone install fully rotational, ejector seats on this car?

ive wanted to do that for a LONG time...ever since i bought my first 1g.
Ever see that black skyline pick up?

You get the picture as to what i want to accomplish :)!
