I have lost my only set of car keys for my japanese spec evo 8. Was advised to put aftermarket ECU (HKD F CON V PRO) to get car up and running again cause no one in australia could code a new key for me. Car is up and running fine but when i switch on the A/C its only blowing air and not cold air. I was told that the A/C is not working cause the factory ecu has got an immobiliser fitted that only original key can bypass via transponder. Any ideas how to get this fixed? Please help.

p/s mitsubishi australia and ralliart australia claimed i am the first case and they cant code Japanese evo 8 keys as they dont have the instruments to do it. I have given then VIN number and etc but they still said cant do

I guess i put this up cause i cant find the keys :)
If i can find it i would not have put the scenario up :)

Honestly its up to him whether or not he feels he should be happy that its at least running. If i had spent the money for a j spec evo VIII i would definitely want the a/c working.

GSTBUFORD thank you so much for your support. You got no idea how it is to feel when someone tell you your car is worthless without another ECU and then when i fixed it the A/C is not working.

Hmm.... I dont know how it is over where you live but with most cars over here, the car wont even turn on and some after many tries get locked up. You might just want take a quick glance at fuses or something because i doubt keys are the cause. Oh does it bog a little(or do you hear a fan turning on)when you try to turn the a/c on, and are any of a/c lights on when you do turn it on(or do they flash)?

When i turn on the A/C everthing is on and only normal air comes out of it. the condenser does not seem to be letting the cold air come through.
Apparently cause the key communicates with the transponder and the transponder communicates with the immobiliser / factory ecu. The car is only moving now cause everything is forwarded to the HKS F CON V PRO and i am just using a normal key to start the car and there is no output from the factory ecu as thats what i was told..

The factory ECU wires are all black in colour. So dont know which wire is for what.

p/s i am going to be honest i know nothing about this ecu and wiring and etc. so this is a learning curve to me and i am thankful to you guys out there.

So you are saying the ecu is making the a/c not turn on? What kind of anti-theft crap is that? They don't want the thieves to have a/c? I doubt the ecu is your issue.

That was what i was told. I need to find a way to de-immobilise the factory ecu. Cause at the moment i think the transponder is disabled and i am using a plan silver key to get the car started and i have had to fix a separate immobiliser on the car.

From my understanding, the Evo 8 & 9 have an ecu immobilizer which is coded to match a chip/resistor in the ignition key. If the ecu's rom and the ignition key do not match, the ecu will not boot. No ecu, no start ...and no AC compressor clutch control.

In order to reflash the ecu to disable the immobilizer, you need:

OpenPort 1.3U Universal USB Cable
Datalogging and EcuFlash Reprogramming Cable.
Price is going up it seems, now $117, used to be $99. Since you'll have to buy the cable anyways, you might as well try out the EvoScan software as well. It's only $20 more.

OpenECU - ECUFLASH This one's free, get the latest version your laptop's OS can use.

Once you have the cable (and software), you just plug the two plastic connectors into the black OBD2 and white reflash ports, which are next to each other under the right side of the driver's side dash. Start EcuFlash, turn ignition to on -but don't try to start the car, read the Rom from the ecu, scroll down to the checkbox labeled Immobilizer, and edit the value in the popup box to "FFFF". Save the rom, and then reflash it to the ecu. The car should now start and have full function on the stock ecu.

delta448 and the rest of you guys, i need to saw a few words to you. Bloody helpful and brilliant and fantastic.

I will try to get my mechanic to work on this also which software is better? EvoScan or the ECU FLASH

By doing this will it cause any hiccups or etc to the HKS F CON V PRO?

why cant i not have guys like you in Australia. I lost my keys in september and its march now and i find a solution now. You guys are amazing.

EcuFlash is flashing software, EvoScan is datalogging only software. Both programs utilize the same cable (that I linked to above) to connect to the OBD2 port and communicate with the ecu.

I don't think you'll see any problems with the HKS unit. It should function the same regardless of the immobilizer if it works right now.

The only issue you may encounter is that all the necessary inputs/outputs (for the AC compressor clutch control) to the stock ecu must be still correctly wired.

The F Con V Pro connects inline with the stock ecu and its wiring harness like a piggyback. -So as long as the OEM wiring harness is still intact you should be perfectly fine.

sorry to be a pain but whats the difference between ecuflash and evoscan? what do each do?

Yeah i am hoping necessary inputs/outputs for the AC is still at its default place if not i may encounter some problems.

harry i dont think the ecu is a problem, my cousin has a aem and his a/c works with no problem and on most cars the a/c has its own control
