I've tried my best to find the answers through google, this site, and dsmtalk but couldn't find a direct answer. I understand this question most likely has been answered a thousand times and dallasdsm gets mad at repeating the same answer but I want to put some brian crower 272 cams in my 4g63 cyclone and I found some info on it but didn't get a direct answer to as what else I'll need to install the cams, new valve springs? or what? Any info on this will be greatly appreciated. I pretty much need a list not instructions unless you care to share.

Thanks,
Dsm N00b

Thanks guys, I was reading on some forums that people replaced their valves and springs and didn't know if that was necessary :hellyeah:

I also have been tossing around the idea of BC272's in my car. My setup is in my profile what kind of gains would i be looking at? I can pick some up cheap and would it be worth my time or money with my current mods..
Thanks :thumb:

I installed some i my car about a month ago. they are working great. i ordered mine from slowboy and yes you can stay with the stock springs. Slowboy said they will give you around a easy 30hp gain. The idle is nice little rough but to to bad.

Thanks for the input! Looks like i will be installing some cams in the near future

Has anyone with a stock valve train running 272's dropped a valve on this site?

I love the idle that big cams have on a motor....gives it that V8 feeling....:D

I have not heard of "dropping" any valves, from what I understand you "can" use the stock springs/retainers, but it is "recommended" to upgrade due to instances where valve "floating" occured on 272's with stock valvetrain.

But I could be wrong...

I will be upgrading when i put my 264/272 combo in, but I would rather feel better about something than wonder.
Might not pertain too much to the topic but just food for thought, and something to look at.

Valve float occurs, if you don't have sufficient enough spring pressure and valve can't close fast enough, causing it to float.

Second, it doesn't matter if the cams are 272, 280 or more duration. What matters is so called RAMP rate, or how fast valve opens, because of the lobe profile/ refferred to as SQUARE lobes/.

Third thing is the valve lift. If you have cams with higher lift, you still be required to run double, or Beehive springs.
