I'm just wondering what everyone recommends for a turbo timer. I know they all basically do the same thing but certain timers also do other things such as the Apexi auto turbo timer can give theoretical air/fuel ratios and the Blitz DTT DC IV can display boost levels and the GReddy full auto turbo timer has a built in speedometer, volt meter, and lap timer. I'm kind of leaning toward the GReddy but what does everyone else recommend? Thanks

Both greddy and hks make good turbo timers. I'm selling mine for 40 bucks.

I have a greddy turbo timer. I don't know the model, must be a discontinued model. It works, it's just wired wrong in my car and therefore doesn't start the countdown after the key is taken out. Regardless i was going to get rid of it.

Ok, the reason I'm asking is, I'm buying a 98 gsx soon. I'll pm you when i get it and see if you still have it for sale. I had a 96 gs-t with a hks timer in it but it got totaled in October and I got rid of it with the timer and several other parts in it.

Any reason you absolutely need one? It's not really a necessity unless your turbo is only oil cooled. Just sit in the car an extra 30 seconds and you'll be fine.

+1. Alright sounds good, let me know when you're ready and i'll see if i still have it.

The best turbo timer is a water-cooled turbo.

"Following a hot shutdown of a turbocharger, heat soak begins. This means that the heat in the head, exhaust manifold, and turbine housing finds it way to the turbo's center housing, raising its temperature. These extreme temperatures in the center housing can result in oil coking.

To minimize the effects of heat soak-back, water-cooled center housings were introduced. These use coolant from the engine to act as a heat sink after engine shutdown, preventing the oil from coking. The water lines utilize a thermal siphon effect to reduce the peak heat soak-back temperature after key-off. The layout of the pipes should minimize peaks and troughs with the (cool) water inlet on the low side. To help this along, it is advantageous to tilt the turbocharger about 25° about the axis of shaft rotation."

I like the HKS Turbo Timer. I personally use my Alarm System. Same thing unless you have one that goes of sensors for temp.

I have an old HKS with the push buttons for 30 seconds 1 3 5 mins. works fine most of the time I have it set for 1 min.

waste of gas for a water cooled turbo. Waste of gas for an oil only cooled turbo if you dont' drive like a jerk 30 seconds before you shut it off. Though a lot of people think it's cool to have their car sitting there idling as they walk away.

You can build your own for 5 dollars, plus it can be much more stealth. I used a timer relay, and a little push button switch to activate it, which is hidden. I enjoy having this setup because I don't always want to have my car to shut off right away.

the best turbo timer is the cheapest one..

its been a long while now since i wrote that thing and it still works great.

you are paying for the damn name brand for those $100+ hks, greddy, etc

yea some may have extra features but seriously now are they worth that overpriced tag, volt meter, narrow band useless o2 built in, etc. come on.

only buy the expensive ones if you can get it used for $40 or less. these aren't difficult devices to make, dont go off thinking you must pay a premium to greddy, hks, blitz etc because you think their timers are so much better..

which i and many others are guilty of believing back in the 90s, i personally have 2 greddy TTs, and they work fine, but so does the ebay one on another vehicle i have, see review.

HKS and Greddy makes some good ones, but I agree, sitting in the car the extra 30 seconds saves you the money you would spend on it

I have better things to do then to sit in my car waiting before I shut it off, so I always run the turbo timer. All basically the same, just go with the style you like & which ever one has the extra functions you like. For me I ran the HKS Type 1 because of all the additional features it has. I mounted mine to the steering column & normally have it set on the rpm display & use the shift light function which works really well. Mine was the last version, which I ran for about 5 years. I just picked up their new redesigned Type 1, its installed but not driving the car yet. Not sure if the shift light function will work quite as well, since it doesn't change colour anymore (old version beeped & display turned from blue to red) but it is very compact, which I like.

oohhh my bad dint know u were a English scholar , dude i go to college 30 hours a week , im on the ####in deans list, when i come on this forum im relaxing, i hate when ppl try to act punctual on a internet forum ...theirs no reason .
Actually, there's no reason NOT to. We weren't all taught proper English in school just so that we could pass the class. We learned it to use it.

You can still relax while extending that left hand to hold the SHIFT key down, or to key those extra letters that make 'u', you. I believe you're confusing relaxation and laziness.

The reason behind proper English is for keyword searches. When another member searches "brake problems" and your prior thread is titled "break probs", it's not going to yield a result. Not to mention that us adults here don't want to waste our time trying to decipher internet slang.

And last but not least, the use of proper capitalization, punctuation, and grammar is a necessity to all here. It's listed in the rules that you agreed to when you registered an account here. If you didn't agree with them, then you should have ceased advancement in the registration process. PM me with any questions relating to this, so that we don't continue clutter up this guy's thread.

Just goes to show that you can buy an education, but you can't buy common sense.

I have an old HKS with the push buttons for 30 seconds 1 3 5 mins. works fine most of the time I have it set for 1 min.
I have the same one. Set for 30 seconds...works perfectly. Honestly, I don't see the need for all of the extra stuff. Just something to countdown 'til shutdown.

yea i wanted to do put an aftermarket alarm that had one of those built in timers, but after looking at many through the years, the minimum setting for that timer is like 1minute isnt it?

I have mine set for 1 minute.
