hey, got a question, i noticed that my passager airbag is starting to peel up on the bottom right hand side, is this normal or what? another thing is, my trans/or what ever scared the shiz out of me, i came to a stop and aplied the brakes and put it into reverse and it like made an hell of a sound, so i back it in the best i can, and i had to move it away from the curb and i had to back it up again, and it did it again.... is this a problem with some of the recalls for the AWD? I have called NHTSA about it, and so i thought i posted it here as well to get ideas.

Sadly, it pretty much is.

No. It may be a problem with your clutch not fully disengaging. Or, you need to learn to bump 5th before pulling back into reverse. It'll brake the spinning gears so the teeth on the reverse idler don't have to. DSMs have a "brake" on the reverse gearset, but it's not particularly effective.

Hey there. I have a 98 GST Spyder. My passenger side airbag look likes its slightly out. The cover on it doesnt sit right. Is this a common issue? Does anyone know if I can just push the cover in without risking it blowing it up in my face? Thanks
Andy

The service manual suggests that the 1st thing you want to do is disconnect your negative battery cable for at least 1 min before fussing with any air bag.

Then remove the 2 clips from the side of your glovebox and lower the door.
Now with a flash light you should be able to see the screws that hold the air bag in place.
Loosen them a little so you can adjust the air bag, once you've got it where you like it, tighten the screws, while you hold the air bag in the spot that you like.
Treat the screws like lug nuts, stagger your tightening sequence so that you don't accidently shift the air bag assembly.
Should be good...... :thumb:

I have a 95 tsi and the passenger side airbag cover is all warped from the sun. Does anyone know a way to fix this? The corners of it are starting to fold up.

i dont have a pic but we all know what happens with those pesky 2g pass airbag covers... anybody attempted to fix them? how much would it be to get a new one put on?

Well not sure if it would work on your problem but you can take some 3M trim and emblem adhesive and use it to get it to glue back in place. Just get some paint stir sticks or something of the sort to wedge into tight spots depending on where yours is coming up.

Just an idea for you.

So what have most of you guys/girls done about the horrid warping of the airbag panel?
I want to replace it or re-glue it. I have seen a few people make interesting plates to go over it, i just dont know what or how i should do it.
Any advise would e great thanks.

Ive had this problem with my 95 talon, all i did was pull it out, put some gorilla glut under it and lay it on my bench with some weight on it untill the glue set. I have not had this problem with my 96 eclipse yet.

+1 on the Gorilla Glue. Within 2 weeks of having my car here in AZ the sun tore mine up. Pulled it out and glued it for a while and tinted my windows and haven't had any problems since. Very simple to do.

I was thinking of buying some Carbon Fiber wrap/sheet to make a new panel to go over the metal plate. Maybe mold in some gauge pods.

You can do that as well, I've also seen ppl mold in tv screens with the slim line ps2's as well. I'm a factory kinda guy, so my input is glue it back down, and keep it looking simple inside

+1 on the take-out and glue idea. Keep her clean and simple.

Well im gonna go wash the mitsu down its been a week or so w/out a wash.
I will take a pic of it & post it.
So who has done the fix???

+1 for the gorilla glue

That stuff will stick to anything, I used carpet adheasive though b/c I hadn't heard of gorilla glue at the time. We also glued the dash back together on my bro's 1g using the same carpet adheasive and that was 4 years ago and still stuck down.

since i have had this car the passenger side airbag cover has be pulled up and i was wondering if any one knows how to fix it ... i have tried heating it up and glueing it down but didn't seem to work all that great... thanks for the help
