Hello all,

I have an issue with a 97 spyder gs I just bought a few weeks ago, the speedo is off by 7 mph and there is a shift flare from 2nd to 3rd during light-medium driving. Its becoming a pain in the ass to deal with. The tranny fluid look good and the level is at full when warm and in neutral.

It doesnt seem to be the end clutches because od works fine and the tranny doesnt try to shift into od when overdrive is off.

My first thoughts are to get a tranny flush done and change the transmission fluid filter to make sure thats not the reason for the shift flare, I just dont want to throw moneyat this troubleshooting with mobil 1 atf being 7usd a quart, there has to be a way to specifically know what is wrong. I willing to take the pan off and test/measure whatever I need to.

If anyone has anymore insight into this I'd really appreciate it. I'm new to my area so I dont really have any tranny shops I trust yet.

I don't know about fixing autos, but I helped my friend with a 98 Spyder GS swap his auto to a 5 speed. It was suprisingly easy.

I doubt that's what you want, but it's an option!

I bought 96 spyder N/A auto with the exact same problem I gave out after 3 months of driving. Never got a change to have it rebuild A hurricane took the car. I would say rebuild. Most used Mitsu trans cost 1500$ not worth it b/c most will not come with a warranty. You can get all the parts for about $450. But I dont recomend trying to rebuild it yourself ( I tryed b/c the mitsu mechanic I knew never got around to working on it, so I brought it home rebuild it and when I put it in it didnt move LOL).

I've been getting some help on this from highpsi tsi guy and some other sources.

The general consenus is that its most likely clutches slipping or a pressure solenoid failure. I dont know where the pressure solenoid is located or how to test it. HPTG also said it could be the pump, and to check the pressure from the fluid return line coming from the cooler. I havent had the time to test it. If it is low pressure, that will make me happy, I will test the solenoid and change the filter/fluid.
