We all know how cheap us DSMers can be. Sometimes, we'd rather have the car running than to take the time and fix it correctly, or we'd rather spend the money on go-fast parts instead or upkeep. I'd like to see just what kind of "ingenuous" fixes people have come up with, either temporary or permanent.

Currently I have the passenger parking light held in the bumper with rubber cement (clips broke off).

I used to have a Gatorade bottle as a coolant bottle and the stock intercooler pipe "fixed" with duct tape (wow that was ages ago, so naive).

Anyone else have some good ones?

I was installing a fmic on my friends 1g eclipse and we got it all mounted, ran all the tubing and found we were short by about 6". So we tried to find something in my garage that would work for the time being. All we could find was a soup can, perfect size and everything. So we cut both sides out and hooked it up. It lasted for about a month then we got an actual replacement piece for it.

My bumper is being held on by... I'm not even sure what. The five bolts in the top broke off and the connections by the wheel well aren't there either.

Same, nice little tiny C-clamps actually have been working well for this. Need to take the bumper of REALLY fast? Done. :D

Um...Velcro'd my safc under my radio. Ducktape on my intake return pipe!
LoL...i have a velcro'd Apexi Neo under my radio. Looks pretty decent though. It allowed me to hide the wires good. I'll post a pic later tonight. I think my best ghetto rig part is a beer cap wedged in my driver's side mirror to keep it from shaking going down the road. Wonder what the police would think if they actually noticed it? Haha...

i have a drywall screw holding up both sides of my glove box. and i couldn't find any replacement for the piece around the right manual side mirror joystick thing, so when it broke i took all the pieces and duct tapped them on the inside to fit back into the hole. when i hit a bump hard enough, the mirror points strait towards the asphalt. If your ever in myrtle beach, I'm the dude at the 544 stoplight that has to get out of his car in order to fix the mirror.

Just before I put it away for the winter my recirc tube came out and would cause a really bad pre-turbo leak because it wouldn't stay seated properly. Unfortunately I had a minor emergency while I was allowing the silicone on it to dry to it must have shifted quite a bit during driving, now my recirc tube looks like it has gray hair coming out of it and it sits at an odd angle. It is well sealed though. I will be replacing it with a hard intake sometime this summer so it will look better then.

I hit a coon or a cat one night coming home from the bar. It broke the left side of my front bumper. So now at the top holding it to the car I just have a small bolt with a nut holding it on. And at the botom by the fog light was broken too, so I took a peice of brass, put two holes in it and screwed it into my bumper, holding it together of course. You don't notice the brass peice since my car is yellow in the first place.

Ohh and my right corner light, the clips are busted off, so I have it superglued in place..

...not on my car but a friends...he has a bean can for a tail pipe...still has the label on it and everything, a big ol' can of pinto beans LOL

I have a rigged up oil catch can. Got me the catch can using a mini air compressor in-line filter with rubber hoses all for $20 !

i have the wrong intercooler piping so i have to support it in so it dosnt sag and i took a block of wood and put a hole in it then wire tied it under the intercooler piping that and my translator is in a tuperware box zip tied in my engine bay

Bungy cord to help return throttle plate, the spring is not strong enough. Bungy cord holding oil cooler line up from scraping the road. Im sure there is a few more things but I cant think of it at the moment.

Oh and I couldn't get the little clip that holds the window tight enough to stop the window from rattling so I stuck a small clamp on it. Held up for a while but broke one time when i rolled the window all the way down.

The clipse:
All the wiring in my car in general, is just soo trash and ghetto. Please dont ever look up under my dash. And the whole car is held on by zip ties.

The civic: The sides of the bumpers are held on by zip ties, the alignment I did with a measuring tape, the headlights are held tight with zip ties (cars been wrecked and the lights were pointed down a bit) I painted the car myself and did a color change, but didnt bother to do the jams.

.Velcro'd my safc under my radio.

Did the same but do not consider it ghetto rigged. Under my radio I have an empty slot, so when I get in the car pull the safc out and stick it up, when I get out, it goes in the slot and can not see it..... best anti theft device is to not flash your stash..

This thread makes me ill.
