Yes run 8s and he's dead serious about it.

He lives in a very disillusioned world where he seems to think anyone can go 8s in a DSM if they have enough money. He seems to think that if he buys this perfect setup, it will get him to run 8s...ignoring the fact that things will break, the time involved, and the MONEY...oh...the car will also be STREETABLE. On top of all this, he has never even launched a car, or been to a track. He also likes to ignore the fact that many major shops have never even gone that fast. Is my friend crazy? Does he have a very active imagination? Please post your thoughts and comments!

Umm i think you know the answer to that. Does he know that when he does run 8's that he will have to take everything apart and check to make sure it is still safe. I mean When shep goes down the track he has to rebuild his tranny almost after every run.... Im not saying dreams arent possible just not practical...

I want to run 5s and be streetable.

I guess with enough money time and energy, anything is possible, just not practical.

Take him to a track and let him see for himself, as well as show him some time slips off here so he can get an idea of how much people have put into cars to be able to run 10s, and see how he reacts.

I've tried to be realistic with him. However he is very stubborn and is dead set on obtaining his goal regardless of what the odds tell him. He seems to think that with this "formula" of his, he will get there. I am trying to reason with him and help him pick a more realistic goal before he spends all this needless money and face disappointment.

Tell him to strip that DSM down to the metal, buy a $20k fully built engine, and put the gas pedal to the floor, and he might get to the 8s.

hahahahahah

oh man, I thought my 11s goal is hard.

You need to force him to go to the track to see what it takes to run 12's, 11's, or 10's. Any idiot can see that it takes alot to get these numbers with a dsm. Maybe this real life experience will be enough to wake him from his disillusioned state. LOL

Think of it this way - someone saying they wanted to go 8's 30 years ago would have been ridiculed. Now look, those same damn ppl are going 8's. If he's a dreamer and want to go 8's, has the money, the time, and the will...let him do it.

...tell him to put a jet turbine motor in the car then ... Sounds like he's been playing too much PS3 or XBOX360 and got himself stuck in that mode. Does he have rich parents to fund him of this nonsense?

I'd just back out and not get involved with his ridiculous ideas - don't even see what he's gonna do and is doing. He'll find some other guy that'll believe him.

So, my goal of 11s, with a streetable car is attainable? SWEET!

If we could all run 8s and be streetable wouldn't that be everyone's goal?

How old is your friend cause he clearly is not in touch with reality, sounds like he is in a teenage dreamland. If your friend never has even been down the track he needs to get some experience. First off 8's are hella fast and it takes an experienced driver to be able to control/correct the car in a fraction of a second is case something went wrong. the last thing he needs to do is take out someone else's car at the track. The reality is even if he built his car to run 11's doesnt mean he will be running 11's all day. With lack of experience he'll probably be lucky to run 12's. To me it sounds like a pipe dream! And stoners are not ment to move that fast.ROFL

I'm not one to crush people's dreams, if they have the determination, resources, and the wits to do it... None of us but GinNBoost knows the guy. Everyone said Einstein was a nut job. Let him do what he wants. He'll only disappoint himself if he doesn't make it, or disappoint everyone else when he does. It is do-able, and has been done, regardless of who did it, and how. If you wanna help, tell him to start reading Corky Bell's Maximum Boost. If he understands and can apply all of that, then get out of his way!

Yoooo what up son? How's that Evo hanging? Missing the DSM scene yet?
((resourcefullness + years of experience + IQ) * (level of determination)^3) / ((difficulty of the goal)^2 - disposable income) = probability of timely success

:|

Why is this in the newbie forum? BS questions should go to the hangout...

That equation doesn't make sense. How do you rate the difficulty of the goal, resourcefullness, and level of determination? Is this on a 1-10 scale? I'm assuming not. What if difficulty of goal was lower than the amount of disposable income? The probability of success would be in the negatives. Please redo the equation.

Makes too thinking head my hurt much.
No scale, just wanted to present in a way that could emphasize relative importance and in what manner each affects the result. A BS question to start a thread begets BS answers.

Basically, what I'm getting from this thread is that the OP wants us all to know that he knows he has a "mentally challenged" friend who miraculously somehow hasn't yet parted with all of his money. Everyone else here are just post whores who will all lose a tally or two after Defiant logs on tonight. :D

LOL, good luck to him! If John Shepherd barely got into the 7's (World's fastest DSM), what makes your friend think he can get to the 8's?

Play it off and tell him for sure he can run 8's. Then when he's at the track for his first time after failing to make an 8 second 1/4 mile run, tell him you told him he can run 8's on the 1/8 mile.
