Despite what most people think, older generation Audi's are actually extremely unreliable. The A4's are infamous for problems, the S4s may be a bit better.

Agreed. I was looking for an A4 before I bought the two daily drivers I've been through and all of the research I've done lead to saying everything from pre-03 had the worse history. Too many electrical problems and horror stories for me.

Your gunna have problems either way. My DSM needs work to it all the time. However, as a dealership tech, I've seen many vw`s and audi`s in the shop for some of the crazyist problems. I guess it all depends on weather you do the work yourself or if you pay a shop to do it. Either way, doing the math, its easyer to fix a DSM then those damn german cars. The labor rates are better 2.

I've never heard anyone consider a turbo DSM a daily driver, so I would have to suggest the S4 if that's what you're between. If you're thinking about any other cars I would definitely suggest a WRX.

S4s with more boost will eat up the stock turbos, so plan on replacing those soon

And some minor elec problems like all german cars like to have, other than that they're good cars

I love them

what Im looking for in a daily driver is something Im going to not give a crap about. A fwd turbo dsm for example. I have an awd dsm, so if I were to daily drive a fwd dsm, I would HATE IT. This is really good, because I won't be like, o, I want a 50 trim for my dd, and a built motor, and ported head, and,...

I'll have it stock and leave it stock. Possibly some fuel efficent mods like exhaust, intake, and those sorts of things. I'd probably also eliminate all those vac lines and emissions crap, because its so ugly...

so I say get whichever one you won't mod, but it sounds like neither of them are really good candidates for that, LOL.

Agreed... what's the problem? I daily drove a GSX and a modded TSi AWD as a DD. Never had down time besides doing upgrades...

if you go by that rule, my awd 1g has only been down once, because of the ecu caps. O, and also had the timing belt tensioner go bad on me, but I caught it because I could hear the timing belt slapping the timing cover during decel in gear. I have no idea how it didn't skip a tooth, but it didn't. maybe those clearences are REALLY REALLY tight in there.

I've owned my car for 3 years this feb, and its been running for less than 12 months. The last 8 months or so was kind of unplanned though,...

Get a Tata Nano.
I'd just get a motorcycle. Looks like it'd be the same fuel economy, price, and safety ratings, LOL

honestly, driving a car like that in america would be dangerous. Especially with a top speed of 65mph in cali. All those suvs going 80mph, they won't even see you until they look in their rear veiw mirror to see what that "bump" was.

A bike you can at least avoid those idiots quickly on.

Got rid of my money pit! Happy to see there are guys that consider Audi & VW as a car option. I currently own a VW 1.8t as a daily driver. I just had a new baby (great reason to get rid of a DSM) & would like something that has more room. I was thinking either
Audi R6 or allroad. What do yall think?

Between the s4 and the gsx for a DD i'd say get the s4. You did say you wanted awd and turbo, im surprised no one mentioned the gvr4.. :D Get that for a daily.

im obligated to tell you a GSX, my car is not a daily driver but im up north in ohio so i dont like to have to paint the front bumper ever spring because if there is more than 4 inches of snow im plowing the roads. In nice weather though there is no reason why you can pull it out everyday. I get 23 miles to the gallon so i cant complain.

I have a done a stage 3 set up with my buddy on his s4 and it really is quite easy. All connections come off with one plug and the front end coems off very easy. The motor comes out almost effortless. Could probably get it done in around 3-4 hours next time around
