Hey guys just a real quick ? i did a boost leak test not to long ago and i have a leak in my throttle body i checked the elbow and made sure everythign was tightened down but its still there. My dad was talking to someone about it and they said to NOT drive it if there is a leak in the TB it can cause the engine to over heat and such, but of course he can fix it. So how much of this is true i'm a newb and i'll admit to it.

The guy also gave my dad the speech about how these cars are real nice IF you have the money to pour into them due to parts breaking all the time. I've read on and on about how if you take care of a DSM it will take care of you

So let me know what you think

Thanks

When I had a leak in my TB, the stock blow off valve would actually blow off the intercooler pipe. If you limp you might be okay, but just use some WD40 or something to find out where the actual leak is. Prolly just a $4 gasket.
Check and make sure that the TB is closing all the way...it may be dirty and not closing completely.

he's Bsing you... Maybe he thought you had a coolant leak in your TB?

Not only will your car not explode because of a TB leak it may even run decently well. I went 12.9@105 with no shaft seals whatsoever. I knew they were leaking but when I took it apart to rebuild it I didn't expect there to be nothing behind the metal clips.

2G BOV's (stock) do not bolt on, and no matter how much I tightened the POS down, it would actually pop out of the IC pipe. After I replaced the bad gasket it never came out again. It was the gasket closest to the intake manifold, not the one at the elbow.

Don't trust the "shade tree mechanic", the only reason I can think he would tell you that it could over heat, is maybe if it gets too much air at idle it will lean it out, and cause it to run a little hot. Check and see if it leaks at low pressure, or just when it has a lot of pressure. I don't think it could cause that much of a problem though, just keep a close eye on everything.
