i dont know if this is in the correct section or not...but what would have to be done to have this swap happen...now im not saying im going to do it because its already been done to the car by a couple of dumb fvcks that thought they knew what they were doing when they bought another engine after the 4G64 melted.

im not really asking if it can...because my girlfriend has a spyder with a 420a in it right now...there is just no coolant resevior but the people who did the swap used a mountain dew bottle for right now and they used the old 4g63 ecu which has already burnt up and her parents told her ex-boyfriend to find them an ecu which i think is also the wrong one...but they bought the one he found because it was cheaper than the one i found...so im pretty much asking i guess what else has to be done to this car inorder for it to run properly??

actually locke im about to send you a pm about this because maybe were close enough that you might be able to look at the car and understand a little bit more of what im asking here...

You might want to go onto Ebay and find a coolant resivoir for starters

haha thats a deff a yes!!! but would i need to buy one for a 420a or 4g64?? or are they all the same?? if you couldnt tell i know nothing about eclipse right now...im more of a celica type of guy but ive always wanted a gsx but thats besides the point LOL

A coolant resivour is a coolant resivour. It doesn't really matter as long as you can mount it. I would assume you kept the original location for the resivour. So therefore you would need a 4g64 one. If you take a picture and post it up we could tell you which one for sure.

yeah i'll post up a pic tomorrow of the engine so we can make sure which one it is and then go from there.

A picture will answer all questions you have about this engine - though I'm sure our PM transactions should have things straightened out. If need be, I don't mind meeting somewhere, sometime, and looking at it for you.

An offer you can't refuse, siver-2g. This guy knows his stuff (don't worry about first impression. He's not as dumb as I look :D)

Good to see you back on a bit more regularly Locke :thumb:.

Definitely toss up a picture and I can help on behalf of the 4G64.

Also, I am smack in the middle of installing my turbo (finally) and I have to install a coolant reservoir from a 2G turbo. That means I'll have an old coolant bottle for sale (behind the fuse box in my avatar). You SHOULD be able to put the bottle back on its bracket and just plug the hose into the appropriate nipple (you may need a longer piece of hose). I don't know the setup of the 420A that well, but the bracket should still be there.

I'm guessing that the bracket is long gone. Where your coolant bottle is, is the same place where the 420a motor mount would go (that would be the reason that he has a soda can for an overflow can).

I've been on every few days, but don't have much time lately to post much. I try when I can. :)

You should be able to view the classifieds as a New Member. The local scrapyards ought to have some as well.

i'll look into viewing the classifieds i think im about to get that coolant bottle and everything off of ejc83 and just pick up the bracket from a junked dsm

Read that, but think backwards. The 4g64 makes about the same power, but much more torque than a 420a. Being a lardy Spyder, the added torque of the 4g64 is helpful in keeping you happy during DD use.

As for the Spyder being "lardy", I own a Spyder and a GS with the 420a and according to my door stickers the Spyder is only about 127' heaver. So if the 420a has a guy riding shotgun than the Spyder has the advantage. And from driving them both I think the 4g64 has the stock 420a beat even with the extra weight.
