After I paint the ride and Fix a CV problem On the car. I want to lower the gsx. I put up a post because I lowered my ex eclipse (WITHOUT ASKING) gst spyder with ### ebay coilovers on STOCK SHOCKS, and was REALLY HORRIBLE, It was really bouncy, plus the wheels were really butterflied. I'm looking to lower my gsx, but without the need on purchasing a camber kit, and no butterflied wheels. I heard of people with eibach lowering springs riding on stock shocks and had good handling and no annoying bouncing movement. I want to do it right this time, Especially to the GSX! What are some good combos Shocks/struts and how far low can I go without loosing any HP performance? Any links or part numbers would be great as well. If you dsm'ers have pix of your lowered gsx, post them up and let us know what's it riding in. Thanks. And Sorry for my horrible english and lonnnng post. :dsm:

Is a 1.7 In drop too much? I was checking these out.... Eibach Sportline Lowering Kit 1995 - 1998 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE L4, 2.0L Part#: 4.1560

Will I have problems with these on stock shocks? need some advice fellas. thanks for looking.
If you have any links or pix please include them in this post.

You will most certainly have a bad time if you use Sportlines on stock equipment shocks. And I'd advise not to use them for any application.

Eibach Sportline springs lower the car too much from a performance stand point. Sure it looks fine and some claim you'll be more lucky with the ladies if your car is slammed - but from your post I'm relatively certain you're interested in having a functional car.
When you lower a 2g too much, or any car rather, you alter the geometry in an undesirable manner. This can have a detrimental effect on the car's handling characteristics. Let alone just the scraping every day just trying to go to the store.

When you lower a car you typically want to stiffen your spring rates in order to keep the car "suspended" and off the bumpstops to retain enough suspension travel. Sportlines actually have a lower spring rate than your stock springs do. Not good.
When coupled with stock shocks, Sportlines will surely blow them in short order.

I hate to say it, but a fine DD setup is the Illuminas/Prokits combo. I have a distaste for mine, but for just a regular street car that wants some improvement they're not so bad and many are very satisfied. But when it comes to pure performance, forget it. Go with Konis + GC's or a full coilover setup.

Alright guys. I found this page.
Are these the shocks you are talking about??? (The price seems really reasonable compared to others)
TOKICO GAS SHOCKS HP SERIES 95-99 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE AWD HU3532; HU3533

And is this the eibach pro kit you are talking about?(This is the Lowest Price I found as well)
Eibach Springs - Mitsubishi Eclipse Pro Kit Lowering Springs - Eibach Pro Kit Springs

If so, So I can save these links. Thank you guys for looking!

Those are not the shocks I would choose, but they are a fine match for Prokits.
And yes the second link is for Eibach Prokits. It would be a very cost effective solution to get the Tokico HP's and the Eibach Prokit springs. However, its not a very "sporty" combination. They'll be fine for driving the car everyday but not a performance minded solution.

What are your goals?

I'm thinking of going with something with 650cc's and stock piston/rod's with maybe 272's and AFC For now on the 7 bolt... is that reasonable? Looking to make 350-375 hp. I will keep my eye out for the illumina's your talking about.

Tokicos with anything much lower than stock will have you bouncing off the bumpstops with the same ride quality you describe in your first post. Tokicos are a good replacement for the stock dampers in an otherwise stock setup - their damping characteristics are unsuited for stiffer springs.

ProKits are too soft for their ride height; at the ride height of ProKits the spring rate needs to be around 500lbs - ProKits are barely stiffer than stock. Sportlines are even worse.

As noted earlier, Konis are the best low cost damper, coupled with a 500/350 Ground Control kit. I have heard that H&R springs are a good compromise (search for jtmcinder posts), but I do not have any first-hand experience with the Koni/H&R setup, so I can't be certain, but if Jtoby says they work you can be confident of that.

I have run :
Tokico/stock springs - good
Tokico /ProKit - nasty
Tokico/Suspension Techniques - nasty
KYB AGX/GC - marginal
KYB AGX / stock - OK
Koni/Prokit - nasty
Koni/Suspension Techniques - nasty
Koni/GC - OK (current street winter setup)
ShockTek Bilstein (700/550 - excellent (when the seals hold up) (street summer setup)
Penske 8760 w/800/650 - incredibly good (race car setup)

It is no coincidence that as the cost rises the quality (in every sense) improves.

Hope this helps.

I think he was asking about your handling goals, not power goals.

The Prokit/Tokico combo will be fine for the street, but it's not ideal and you will probably wear out the shocks faster than normal with any spring that lowers the car more than stock - some people don't have an issue with this but many do (I'm one of them). If you want something that will last longer and work better, save up for the Konis. If handling is not a major concern (if you're not planning on autocross or road course events) then just go the Tokico route. They're widely used because they're cheap.
