Any reputable turbo shop ([G-Pop Shop, Turbochargers.com) or sometimes on eBay. Be sure they know it's for a 14B....the 14B uses a flat-back compressor wheel and requires a special rebuild kit to replace the oil sheild and compressor seal collar.

If you're just replacing the general wear items (thrust plate, journal bearings, seals), any TD05H rebuild kit will work. All TD05H turbos use the same thrust plate, journal bearings, and seals.

Refer to this guide for assistance:

I also have another question for another rebuild kit but for a fwd 90 transmission. Can I purchase one of these at a NAPA or other local parts store?

I can also recommend TRE transmissions. I love the one they built for me. I have the LSD insert and it really does work. Instead of spinning only one tire I spin both of them now. :| The double synchro second gear will allow you to make 7500 RPM shifts from first gear without grinding. Just make sure your clutch and shifter are 'properly rigged' before hand.

I wouldnt bother rebuilding that old turbo. When my first 14b went out, I just bought another used one for $50, and its awesome condition.

My friend has also been talking about rebuilding his 14b, but someone I know said that the rebuilt turbos don't usually last very long and that it'd be better to just buy a new one, anyone have opinions about this?

WTF

Apparently this guy doesn't believe rebuilt engines are the way to go, either....you're better off with a brand new 4G63 engine right from the dealer.

Well he rebuilt his own engine. His car actually makes almost 700hp. He's been a mitsu master tech for 2 years now and been into dsms since 94 or so. He built his transmission himself and basically did everything else custom besides his IM, exhaust mani, and turbo, he welded in his own roll cage and exhaust/intercooler piping, so he def. has dsm knowledge/experience. Trust me, it's a 9sec car.

So I usually believe what he says, it's just that he never explains himself so I have to find out on my own.

So he built his own engine and trans, but turbos are his Kryptonite? That makes me feel pretty good considering I've successfully rebuilt plenty of turbos.

I guess everyone has their niche.

Ok good then you can answer my question, rebuilt turbos last just as long as new ones correct?

Just disassembled my first turbo (t25) last night. Pretty exciting stuff! ;) All without needle-nose or snap ring pliers. Ha! I'll take some pix and throw them up in Eric's (turbosax2) T25 thread (well, not his but he revived it). :thumb: I like coke.

.....rebuilt turbos last just as long as new ones correct?
I've seen new turbos that lasted 400 miles, and I've seen rebuilt/reman turbos last 70k+ miles. It's often not the fault of the turbo itself as much as how it was cared for, what shape the engine is in that it's mounted to, etc.
