All 2g ball joint recall threads are merged here.

guys just called dealership about transfercase recall...they said i didn't have any on my model, but the ball joint on the front suspension set did. anyone have any info on this? i'm getting mine replaced on tuesday, can't beat it since they will do the install for free. just a heads up guys, hope this is useful!
phil

I wouldn't drive around the block without the nut on. The dealer will replace it regardless of the abuse if it has not been already replaced under the recall, otherwise I would highly doubt it.

Haha...I had this happend to me. I was driving down dirt road. really bumpy. BANG. ball joint gave out. Wheel cocked out sideways, and I snapped my CV axle. LOL. And guess what. The recal was already done. So I had to pay out of pocket

Sorry to open an old thread it looks like but come to find out i need my ball joints and bearings replaced in the front. Since I found this out today ive been searching for parts to do it myself and found out there was this recall on the lowers. My car only has 79k miles on it. Will a dealership still do the recall on this and the ones that havent been done yet?

This is the second time this has happened to my car, i replaced the passenger side lower control arm after it broke and now the drive side has down this as well.

My ball joint just gave out and I was unaware of the recall. If it already caused body damage, could I tow it to Mitsu and have them fix it for free or would the damage caused be my fault for not being aware of the recall?

yes there is a recall on lower ball joint 94-96 i think google it but its been out awhile yes it dried out and leaked them eventually broke

actually its b oth joints if i recall it just says passenger vehicle not passenger side of vehicle

...how does one not hear about this recall and own a DSM?

And the best time for getting the recall is when the ball joints are failing and making creaking noises...not after they let go.

It has not been documented that Mitsu/Chrylser will repair any other damage relating to the recall. It HAS been documented that they won't. Cross your fingers, I guess.

actually my car hasnt been lowered in awhile i swapped out for OEM shocks when i got the car so it wasnt lowered for long and yes i look ricey as can be but oh well im working on going oem

thought id bump this one:
just called mitsu dealer close to me and asked if any recalls had been done to my car. gave him the vin and he says "there are no OPEN recalls for your vehicle". so i try and get more info. he says it looks like there was a warranty issue a long time ago. i then told him about the ball joints and he claims that it is not a recall for my year and model. the one in question is a 98 gs. im confused.

another update, just called mitsu HQ and asked a rep there about the recall. he said according to my vin number my car was unaffected. LOL, then he said that, or the recall has already been performed but wouldnt clarify which one. #### it, im going to buy the damn things and install them. its creaking and has 201k miles on it. its getting dangerous im sure.
