I don't have experience with the Permatex stuff, but I sprayed mine with 3M undercoating and it sucks. A guy at an auto refinishing store recommended this stuff:

I'm going to wait for warmer weather before redoing mine, but maybe you could try it out.

I have used the permetex stuff and it drys only slightly slower than paint. But it was fairly warm when I applied it and I did not use a real heavy coat.

In theory if you wash out the wheel wells and apply this stuff to a rust free underside of a strut tower isn't it supposed to stop the salts and such from rusting it? Same with the underbody of the car?

I tried the Duplicolor bed liner and it chipped away with a fingernail. So now I'm trying the rubberized Permatex which is supposed to be better, but it isn't drying.

Was this the Duplicolor spray on liner or roll on? I've used the roll on in the past on a Jeep and was very impressed with the stuff... I had planned on using it in my wells/underbody this winter to keep everything happy and rust free.

I'll be using some black rubberized coating on my lowering springs in a little bit. Horrendous colors they come in. Stealth for me, as always. I'll let you know what I use. My uncle has dealt with this kind of stuff before, he knows what's good.

I think I used the 3M can stuff on the bottom of my front bumper lip to cover up the scratches and nicks, but over time it seemed to lose its blackness and became a light black (almost grey). That's usually indicative of a lack of UV resistance.

housegsx, how does the U-pol stuff come out of the gun (spray pattern-wise)? That stuff probably sticks like mad, so you'd better have a good masking job and be sure of where you want it to go. Bed liner material is TOUGH!

I would just want to know that it keeps its luster, and doesn't turn grey.

Bed liner material is TOUGH!

Not the Duplicolor stuff. The cheapest Wal-Mart spray paint is more scratch resistant than this crap...at least the can I tested.

EDIT:

Sorry Jim... didn't see your question. It was the spray on version shown in the link above.

BTW - Someone at work had the same results I did with it, but unfortunatley didn't test it first. They ended up with a truck bed full of nicks and paint showing through after the first week of light use.

whats up guys. at my body shop i just ordered the can of transtar undercoating. someone has a picture of it up above. ive also used the norton and 3m. they all work pretty well but i do like the transtar's technology and the way it lays on. if you guys have a problem with it peeling you might want to try to give it a light scuff first. make sure you clean the area with wax and grease remover . even laquer thinner . you have to get rid of all of the dirt and the thinner will actually soften up the paint to act as an adhesion promoter. so clean it all good ..scuff it up real nice and spray it on . make sure its a decent temp so it will cure
