The evo guys are kind of goofy with there injector scaling. They put a smaller size so there cars will run rich and have a safe tune. In the DSM world we have always entered the actual flow rate of the injector, then adjusted the fuel map to make it run richer if need be. Also many injectors don't flow what they are advertised at, like PTE 780s only flow 750.

You're exactly right. I don't think I would put in a smaller than stock injector scale. I know with the EVOs, the car seemed to run better with a smaller scale vs. injector size. With a larger injetor (>800cc), it seemed it was a little trickier to get the tune just right, but not too much harder.

The other end of this, for those who won't wait for the 1998-1999 flashability to develop seams to be the evo ecu. There's a few who've been able to run an evo8 ecu in their evo4-5 and 7 car with no rear o2 or other various sensors that would otherwise throw a DTC. Are the sensor outputs of a 2g similar enough so that all we have to do is change the wiring. for the evo ecu, as the ecu harnes plug is the same. The evo8 of course is fully supported by ecu flash. I think there is more than one 1995 dsm eprom in an evo8.

What are the pin differences between the evo5 ecu and the 2g ecu? Since it has been mentioned that it is likely possible to run an evo5 ecu in a 2g.

I have a pdf of the evo5 pinout:

1) That there is a power source for pin 13 on the 2g ecu that is a ground on pin 13 for the evo5 ecu.
2) There's no mdp sensor or rear o2 sensor input on the evo5 ecu, so no code for removing these from the 2g harness.
3) Knock sensor input is on a different pin. Is the knock sensor between the 2g and evo4-5 interchangeable?
4) The ever important diagnostics pin is 79 on the evo5 ecu, which is open on the 2g ecu.
5) All the other sensor inputs are generally in the same location
6) There's a ground on the evo5 ecu where the park/neutral would be for an automatic 2g ecu

There's probably more I've missed. And I can't remember if the evo4-5 has the same maf as the 2g.

If the sensors between these cars are the same the evo5 ecu afte repinning will swap right in and do away with the mdp and rear o2. And you can run the evo4-5 injectors. Can EcuFlash edit the evo5 ecu with the addition of wiring in the 1998-1999 2g/evo flash port?

Also a friend of mine has an evo ecu in his 3g (I think it's an evo8 ecu)... 3g ecus are flashable as well, right? And the harness plugs are all the same with 2g DSMs.

And what about the evo2 pinout? is this the same as a 2g? Here is a thread on wiring in an evo8 ecu into an evo2.. Here's a good thread of swapping an evo8 ecu into an evo5.

2g pinout.

Evo5 and 8 pinouts:

4) The ever important diagnostics pin is 79 on the evo5 ecu, which is open on the 2g ecu.

If it's the flash pin then it might be there for 98(late)/99 2Gs. They do match.

I will keep this Evo ECU solution in mind as well :)

Has anyone tried this new 98-99 reflashing capailities on the ecuflash sw? have a 98 car and would like to try this instead of dsmlink
