hi, i wona upgrade my turbo on the gsx, and there is so many choices dont know which one to buy, so i asking you pepz wich turbo is best for under 1k for street/strip setup thanks,

The BWS200 or S300's and Holset HX40's are perfect for you goal, but I almost hate recommending them. I like the fact that they are not as mainstream as the GT30 and 35 series turbo's!

Take a look at the BW S256. Martin @ VIP Garage sells alot on them and has an EVO that makes 500whp and 500ft/lbs on pump gas and meth on the S256

Then again there's also the Holset turbos. Steve93Talon made 457whp on his, and I believe he mentioned having more in it, while still retaining good spool time.

I'm running a Borg Warner S258, actually.

450hp on what kind of gas? On what kind of dyno? You could probably make 450hp if you were on a dynojet, running E85 or C16 with a lot of boost on a 50-trim.

I was on 93 octane, no meth injection, corrected numbers (478 uncorrected) on a dynojet.

You might also want to consider a non-extended tip BW turbo, they're very cost effective. Matt from GVautosport runs one and loves it.

I'm SCM61 equipped. I bought the car this way, but the previous owner had it 11.8 at 120ish. This is with a stock IM, basic 2g mani, and a Supra SMIC.

Without bench-dynoing a number, I'd assume this would meet your goals, be cheap enough, and have reasonable spool time.

Whoops, brain fart, my mistake. I think the Borg Warners and Holsets will become a lot more popular as time goes on. I can't remember seeing any bad reviews.

i had a pte 6152e but i got it from a friend and it was totally shot and needs a rebuild and was not worth it. im geting another 57 trim in good shape for 450 its in a mitsu hosuing where would be a good place to get a t4 hosuing for it for a good price also would my current 02 hosuing fit with the t4? the reason im not to crazy about the holests is because ive seen one blow up and the person i sent the pte to rebuild told me i could go with a holset but hes seen them blow up too....how much would a 30r run ?

You selling the blown 6152 you have? Send me a PM! :thumb:

Im looking for the best turbo for my current goals and mods. To me the two obvious choices would be the big 16g or the evo III. My profile is up to date so you can see my mods, and my goal for hp overall will be 280-300. What do you think would be best for this? I was hoping for a quicker spool, but the sound of a strong top end boost intrigues me:sneaky:

There is also the "Evo III Big 16g" which would be the best of both worlds. Which big 16g were you referring to? If this is the EBay knock off, I would advise against it. Turbocharges are high-precision items and having to pay the cost twice when one goes out is not worth the pain. (This topic has been overdone.)

If you are looking to hit 280-300, then a 14b could even do the job. The hard part is the supporting mods and getting proper tuning for those mods. Most of this can all be done with relative ease, only including injectors, air/fuel management, and a moderate turbocharger. With your listed mods, you could easily reach these goals.

:nono::nono::nono:
no ebay turbo's for me! I was looking at the dsm performace evo III or the same turbo from FP. I have heard nothing but good things from these two vendors and I know the importance of quality parts.

If I got a set of denso yellow injectors, an evo III fp and the evo III turbo w/ a recirc O2 housing, about how much would I be pushing?

Don't forget ExtremePSI if you're getting a lot of stuff. They have cheaper prices and free shipping, but charge about $8 for processing. (They are my friends and saviors!)

Oh, and the Evo III 16g is a "Big" version, then. There is a redesigned wastegate outlet (good for creep problems) and it has a better flow pattern on the turbine side. There are other variations that are the small 16g that offer quicker spool, but less power. The spool to power ratio is offset though and you're better off getting the E3 for anything around 300hp and above for a bit of comfort zone. Full spool on my setup is at about 3.65k rpm with the E3 16g compared to my old stock 14b at 3.5k.

Small 16G for sure.

The Small 16G spools as fast as a 14B but has all the pull of a 16G on top. It may lack a little top end pull in comparison to the Big 16G / Evo III 16G, but it spools 400-600rpms sooner.

The Big 16G and Evo III 16G are the same turbo aside from the Evo III having lighter internals and a 2.5" outlet on the exhaust housing. The lighter internals aid in getting the Evo III to spool a little quicker, but I've never seen it to make a noticeable difference. Compression ratio will effect spool times more drastically than the Evo III's slightly lighter internals.

I just rebuilt the head on a customer's '90 TSi AWD that had a super-tight low end, and while I was at it he asked if I could ditch the 14B in favor of a Small 16G. The car's still running the stock fuel system, and at just 15psi the Small 16G makes full boost at a whopping 2800rpms. I'm so used to laggy, race-oriented cars that I forgot how fun a small-turbo'd daily driver can be. The Small 16G is my new favorite daily driver turbo.

DSM-onster will agree, the Small 16G is perfect for your goals.

Are you saying that a small 16g spools 400-600 RPM sooner than a big one? Damn.. Never heard of such a difference before. I never used a big 16g myself - jumped from a small 16 to a PTE SCM bolt on and the difference was about what you say is between a small and a big one. I 'm not knocking your words or anything, just curious.

If that IS true, then the small 16g will be the way ill be going. As i said before, I would rather a quick spool turbo, and I have no plans to make it past 300 IF i even get up to that. I am just in the market for a bit stronger turbo, and if i can get quicker spool out of the small 16g than the stock 14b then my mind will be made up. Can anyone else add on to this?

I've had no prior experience with the Small 16G until the one I recently installed on the '90. The car had a fresh valve job done (by me) so compression was 150ish across the deck....and the Small 16G is making 15psi just below 3k, somewhere right around 2800rpm.

I should add is that the turbine housing on the Small 16G was a ported 6cm2 housing, not a 7cm2. There are tons of posts on here explaining that a 6cm2 housing will spool a 16G quicker for daily drivers, which is exactly what my customer was looking for. The combination is perfect for his relatively stock car.

The last experience I had with an Evo III 16G on a '95 TSi. The car had higher compression (180psi across the deck due to 8.5:1 ratio compared to a 1G's 7.8:1) and fully spooled the Evo III around 3300-3400rpms. That's approximately a 600rpm difference compared to the Small 16G.

IMO I have had both turbos and just buy the evo3 and dont upgrade again. It was a noticable amount of power once you went over 20psi. Last season I had a s16g @22psi I ran a 13.1@107mph. This season I had a evo3 and at the same psi on my first run ran 12.8@110. Then I bumped the boost up to 28psi and ran a 11.98@118 and a whole bunch of 12.1 and 12.2s. I would just buy the bigger of the two so in 6 months your not saying wish I would have went with the evo3. Just my opinion though.

I didn't check but what do you plan to tune with?

I have seen evo3 16g's, 550cc injectors, 190pump and the other supporting mods put down in the lower 300's on a couple 2g gst's using safc2 for tuning.
If your planning on running dsmlink then I'd step up to 650-680cc injectors and a 255pump with a fpr just to be safe and have the extra room, but the above mentioned setup is awesome on the street and is consistent on the dyno.

The Difference between the Small, Big, and Evo 3 16's are so small you might as well go with the Evo 3 right off the bat. My old Evo 3 setup like 5 years ago would spool 20psi by 3200rpms. Its the perfect Turbo for daily street driving while still being easily capable of 300+whp.

Thats why i chose my evo iii, plus i got a awesome deal on it, but i do want to maximize its performance, before i go larger if that. Plus i will have a FMIC, more fuel, and dsmlink, in a few
months.

Okay well keeping in mind that everyone seems to get bored and always wants to upgrade (myself included) ill just go with the evoIII

The evoIII would be what I would recommend as well. It is defently not a "laggy" turbo & with all the extra mid/top end power vs the stock T25, you never miss the slightly quicker spool (I know I didn't back when I had an evoIII). Looks like your fwd so super quick spool isn't your friend, the more instant boost of smaller turbos juts leads to breaking the tires lose alot easier.

6 bolt so my stocker is a 14b;) but yes I understand what your saying. I'm going to be searching around to see if I cant get my hands on a decent one in the next few weeks once money comes around (and hurricane season ends). Maybe ill luck up on a used one.

Well if thats the case, you may even notice a decrease in spool switching to an evoIII as nowadays its not uncommon for the 14b's to be getting abit tired & spooling slower then they should.

evo 3 16g hands down. Its probably the best turbo for 75% of the people on this board. You get quick spool and big power potential in a stock looking turbo package.
