I'll get it replaced before my next smog check, but do any of you guys think that I should not run a cat on track days? I'm just wondering if this was just a freak thing or if it's something that I should expect with a new cat after a few open track days too (I did 3 on this fairly new cat).

How about running a 3 1/2 " electric cutout? :sneaky: And for anyone needing a intake I have a 3" black Dejon to 2g maf intake $30 :thumb:

seriously dave, lets get my smic on your car and shatter that record

Do you have IC pipes to fit it?
I already have a big fmic I could put on, but the pipes don't match up to a 14b and stock intake manifold.
I also want to see what I can do with this setup before I upgrade the intercooler and other stuff.

I have both a j-pipe (so you could run your big fmic with your 14b) an the piping to run this larger smic. Although I can't imagine the 14b being able to fill up that big fmic very well over the course of 11 seconds (or, more realistic to what Im implying, 12-13 seconds).

are the only changes from last time you ran the 14b to this time your running the 14b the fresh motor? if so, DAMN dave, you got a lot better at driving or something, knocking off 12.0's first time out with the set up.

just to scare all the childern of california's freeways, I'll throw these in there:

Nice pics! Which turbo is that?

I did a little more than just refresh the motor. I went with 9.0 Wiseco pistons. Last time I had 8.3
I also got adjustable cam gears to dial in a little more top end, and a crank scraper.

The tranny was upgraded with an evo3 first gear, and double syncros on 2,3 and 4th gear. I saved 2 pounds with a PTT twin disc clutch, vs the fidanza/ACT combo I had last time.

A new wheel/tire combo saves 6 pounds per corner. 15x7 Rota Slipstreams with 225/50x15 BFG Drag Radials. The tires grip much better. Last week I used a 6k rpm stutterbox and the tires were just barely slipping. Tomorow I'll try launching at 6250rpm and take a few psi out of the tires.

holy shite!!! Dave's running before everyone else! Way to go on the times dave! you can probably hit your goal easily with the weight reduction and increased rpm on the launch.

My gasket isnt here yet (that i know of) but if it comes in and i can get my car back together in time i'll try to get out there on wednesday.

Kahfae, what time are you off wed? (if you work) Maybe we can meet up and go out there so we can roll the carpool lane. My car is now a "2 seater" so hopefully we can get away with rolling in the carpool lane haha.

ahhh schnap, i just realized its already tuesday haha, i dont think i can make it tomorrow.

Good luck Dave!!! hopefully i can get to go out in the next month or so, my co-worker Francis just bought a WRX wagon, and has a bunch of friends trying to make it out to the track on a wed, so i gotta go and show them that the DSM will whoop all their butts!

its the stage, "i bought it used on dsmlink for 275 bucks". Im not expecting anything big, I bought it for another car and just figured, what the hell, while Im putting the talon together for smog, I'll pop this on, LOL. Dave I've been trying to get ahold of you lately because I think shes due for a tune up with the dsmlink once I get her running again. Although I might wait until the body work is done first. It will be nice to drive around a clean dsm again. This time I'll keep the power in check, I've got four new tires, so no excuses this time.

the ptt, CR, and wheels sound like they did the trick though.... thats some serious drivetrain loss. I'll be going with 9.0:1 too, so its good that you'll be tuning the same set up before I do. Do you still run the FIC 1000cc injectors? (or were they pte?)

Right now I'm using stock 450's. One of the little things I did was to send out 8 stock injectors to be cleaned and flow tested. It didn't make much of a difference, the worst injector flowed 446cc, the best was 452, which is already within 1.3% of each other. I picked the best 4 which flow 449 to 452cc, a 0.6% difference.

Let me know when your car is running, I'll be glad to help tune it. Maybe I can trade for your Jpipe?

anybody get a call from infineon telling about pinks all out this weekend?

They called me and left a message on my phone.

Dave post up how you did when you get home!!!

Yeah, I got a call, too. There's going to be some fast cars at Pinks this weekend. There were several fast cars from out of state racing tonight. One car stood out; on the outside it looked like a nice black 1968 Mustang, but under the hood it had two vortex superchargers, and in the back it had two NOS bottles. It was running mid 9's on street tires. OMG I wish I could go, but I have to work.

I finally had a chance to update the timeslip in my profile.
I'm trying to write a thread about it, but I'm so brain dead right now all I can think of is

duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

me go fast!

1.60 60ft ohhh yeah!!! nive driving dave!!! Way to go with the 14b goal.

How much further are you trying to go with it? Are you going to put all your 35r mods on and keep the 14b to see what you can do with it?

Go show Kurt Brown that the 14b can run 10s also haha

Im planning on going on wednesday the 17th with a few other cars, my friends wrx wagon, a twin turbo 96 rx7, and a few other cars, if they dont flake.

Hopefully i can get off work at 2 or 2:30 so i can get there on time. Gotta call fftec to see if i can schedule some dyno time.

11.6,... that number seems slightly familiar,... like possibly, what you ran with your 50 trim perhaps? I dunno, I could be wrong.

I'll call you while your at work tomorow and arrange for a possible tuning session. Ive got dsmlink now.

I was thinking the same thing today: didn't I run an 11.6 on the 50trim? Then again, when I ran the 50 trim I used a mix of 91 and 100 octane, plus I didn't have nearly the same drivetrain and ecu mods.

I'll also plan to race on the 17th. Maybe someone can shoot a vid of the run?

man i really need to get my a/f ratios dialed in.
After replacing the gasket and alternator, i went for a ride and doing a 3rd gear pull my wideband doesnt even register an a/f ratio, it just says RICH haha. That means it has to be in the 9:1 or lower !!! I guess there is more power to be had!

wow, big difference. I guess the bad gasket was messing up the A/F readings. I think you just found some easy power.

yeah i had saw it at 10.3-10.4 before on some pulls and got progressively richer. The last pull i looked at it was just at "rich" haha.

I need to wire in this buffer circuit that they sell for dsmlink so i can log my plx wideband below 11:1 a/f ratio, once the plx goes lower than that dsmlink cant read it and log it so it will just flatline at 11:1 and then i'll think ive got it dialed in when i look at a log (i think this is what we did last time Dave! haha)

ecuinputdata [ECMTuning - wiki]
Here is the link for what i need to install, it should be pretty straightforward, but i hate wiring stuff that goes to the ecu!

we'll have to see what the fresh dyno tuning will do for both of us eh Dave?

Its going to be funny because i already know Dave's car is faster than mine. I have to break a 12.5 wed and get good 60ft times. driving this new setup is still pretty new to me, i need to figure out shift points and all that so i dont expect to go and pull an 11. We'll have to wait and see what they dyno tells me as far as where im making power and where i should shift as well as how much power im making and if its enough to run xx.xx time. If i did hit an 11 i would be in the crap my pants happy zone, but i doubt it will happen wed.

What time are you planning on geting there, Dave? I think i can get off of work at 2 or 2:30 so i'll probably be there at 3 or 3:30

Post up your dyno sheet when you get it, I'll take a look and see where your shift points should be. I think you have the mods to get into the 11's. If you can tune it for around 22psi of boost, that should be good for a high 11. Good luck!

I hope to get to the track about 2:30 so I have time to prep the car. I have a dyno appointent at 10AM on Wed which shouldn't delay my arrival at the track.
