Gran Turismo Omologato is the name that Pontiac STOLE from Ferarri. Most enthusiasts and collectors like to say that it means GreaT One... But they're just silly :p
Also, I'm quite stupid when it comes to this, but what's up with the thing with the Pontiac GTO and the Holden Monaro? Does Pontiac and Holden have a thing together, or did one steal from the other? If that is the case, and Pontiac stole that design from Holden, then they've lost all respect in my book.

I always thought the GT stood for Got Tricked...

It means, "What alphabet soup can we pour on these cars to get the suckers to buy more of them?"

Or, as Mr. Natural explains to Flakey Foont:

It don't mean sheeeeeit.

In response to Noah Hansen's request for deciphering the suffixes on DSM
vehicles:

Talon --
TSi - Turbo Sport injection
(the 'I' designation is a carryover from the 80's when car
manufacturers wanted to specify that a vehicle's engine was
fuel injected rather than carbureted - BMW was among the first
vehicle manufacturers to add this suffix)

[I've also heard "Turbo Sport Intercooled". -talon mgr]

ES - Edition Sport
(this is a unique one...Chrysler introduced the 'ES' designation
on the Dodge Daytona as an alternative to differentiate
themselves from the growing popularity of 'SE' by other
manufacturers - it worked for the Daytona, so it was ported to
the Talon)
ESi - Edition Sport injection
(same as above with the added attempt at sophistication by
elongating the suffix)
DL - Definitely Lame
(just kidding - it's an abreviation for 'Deluxe')

Laser / Eclipse --
RS - Rally Sport
(intended to denote the sportiness level above the base model)
GS - Grand Sport
GS-T - Grand Sport-Turbo
GSX - Grand Sport All Wheel Drive
(this one is a bit of a strech by the marketing folks at
Mitsubishi. The 'X' refers to the word 'cross' as in
'cross country', making loose reference to being able to
cover terrain that other vehicles cannot)

I hope that helps.

>GS-T - Grand Sport-Turbo
>GSX - Grand Sport All Wheel Drive

Here is what I thought on the subject. You may think its lame, but, what
the heck :)

Ok, if you look at the letters T and X in as if you were sitting on the
particular letter like you sit in your car, the letter T shows the power
being sent to the front wheels in a GS-T, whereas the letter X makes it
look like power is being sent to both the front and rear wheels in a GS-X.

ps. Had the 16g on the car 36 hours before she broke :("

according to vfaq, where you could've found the answer if you read it...
tsi = turbo sport intercooled or turbo sport injection
gsx = grand sport all wheel drive (x=awd)

i also read if you look at the letters T and X as you were sitting in the car, the letter T shows the power being sent to the front wheels in a GS-T, whereas the letter X makes it
look like power is being sent to both the front and rear wheels in a GS-X.

Yeh, maybe.

Just under halfway down:

In reality, the letters mean as much as "Acura" or "Corolla" or "Starion" or any of the other gibberish they put on cars. And they can all be translated to four simple words: "Give Us Your Money".

Car builders don't give a shit, they just want to stay in business, just like any other biz.

Mitsubishi's recent efforts to the contrary.

Then how do you explain the Eagle Summit, and Eagle Vision tsi's?

It makes sense that the X in GSX stands for AWD, its used commonly. There's the Infiniti G35 (RWD) then there's the G35X, which is AWD.

I have always wondered what TSI means, i know what everything else stands for but not that. thanks for the help :talon: :thumb:

Okay, I know that TSi stands for something like Turbo Sport Intercooler. But what about the other trim level names? ESi, DL, GSX, GS-T, GS, and RS. The real ones would be appreciated, but if you have any funny ones post em up as well.

Maybe I should've been a little clearer. What's the acronym mean?

DL - Deluxe
Es - Edition Sport (carburated)
Esi - Edition Sport Injection
Tsi - Turbo Sport Injection
RS - Rally Sport
GS - Grand Sport
GST - Grand Sport Turbo
GSX - Grand Sport X <- Represents AWD.
VR-4 - Variable Radius AWD

Or so I've come to understand.
