So heres the deal. The top has a random (at least I cannot find a correlating factor) problem of not going down. When it works its 100% flawless and smooth. When it doesn't work the motor will not so much as move, and none of the windows will go down. Nothing I do seems to fix this EXCEPT I'm starting to find that if I get the car over 40-50 miles an hour at the next light the top will work fine. I'm baffled. Its only happened 2-3 times so far.

Its under warranty but I'd like a solid case to present the mechanic so I don't sound like some 40 year old woman hearing phantom noises (I sold auto parts for 6 years, I know how that goes).

So to recap for the tl;dr's

* Top randomly will not go down
*Problem never occurs when trying to get the top up.
*Windows also stop working when problem occurs.
*Problem goes away after a 0-50mph jaunt.

also out to snap some shots of the car now, should toss them up soon though its nothing special just a stock gs spyder. But always good to have before/after shots for the memory book.

Have you checked to see if there are wires touching/grounding out, disconected/loose or other-wise not where they should be ?

While I cannot say that I have the problem seems to specific to be a loose wire, going over 50 always fixes it and it both the top and windows 100% or not at all.

Check your connections . Sure sounds like a short somewhere . Or a motor going bad .

Try putting the car in park or setting the hand brake. Our cars are very sensitive about being completely stopped before allowing any movement of the convertible top.

wouldve said exactly this but the windows arent working when that happens either right? as in if you dont touch the top the windows wont go down? It's possible that either the connection isnt grounded properly or the battery is corroded out/doesn't have a strong enough volt for the car to drop it down.

but if its just that the top wont go down and the windows wont go down with it, it probably is that you dont have the car completely stopped (handbreak, occasionally you need to be in neutral and off the clutch) its a safety issue i guess

Yes the windows wont auto roll-down AND the individual window controls also do not work. It only happens when I first go out to the car after its been sitting for a while. If anything the battery/voltage cause seems most plausible. I see it like this.

*Car sits overnight and the weak battery loses the charge from the alternator.

*Safety switch (or relay) kicks in and prevents overdrawing current to run accessories.

*A quick 0-50 jaunt gives the ailing battery enough charge to deliver the current needed to flip the relay.
