ok i just re built my motor about 2 mounths ago been running great!! drove it home from work today ran fine. when i got home i changed a water line the the one on the bottom of the throtttle body started it up to see if it still leaked, and it was idiling like crap drove it around the block and the rpm's took forever to rise checked the plugs checked the turbo looked for vacume leaks, and nothing. while it was running i pulled off the mafs plug and the rpm rose a lil bit kinda smoothed out a little, pluged it back in and back to a rough idle...im stumped on this one

That is pretty weird, I heard of alot of cases where the rpms rise when messing with the water lines in it, but not just changing them I would just go back over the job and see what you find out.

when changing that throttle body line did you accidentally hit the tps? Also check to make sure that all the plugs on the tb are dry.

maybe intercooler piping popped off?

i'll check it when i get home from work and let yall kno..the only thing i can think of is the mafs went bad but i dont kno anyone with a first gen but im going to pull off the bumper and go through all my piping ..thanx guys!!!!!!

i pulled the idle speed control plug off while it was running and it dident change anything, it still idled like crap does that mean anything? is the idle speed controler bad?

i all ready posted a thred i got no good advice......i have a mojor problem.....i drove the car home drove fine replaced the water line that runs to the bottom of the throttle body because it leaked. started it up when i was done. and now runs like complete crap rough idle and no power when i drive it. when i full throttle it takes forever to climb rpm's and doesent build boost....its getting fuel, its getting spark swaped ecu's..does any body know what sencor could cause this or somthing please help me out.. oh yea when i pulled the maf plug off while it was running the rpm's rose a little and kinda smoothed out then pluged it back up and back to a rough idle

thats true my o2 sensors went out on my jeep and i dramtically lost power and it sounded like a giant v8 (mine was an inline 6) i also went from 18 to 4 mpg.

haha same thing happened to me i had a 98 cherrokke str8 6 and i thought it was my fuel pump! not! ROFL

as for the problem with it running better when its unhooked. you might try replacing it with a known good part if possible. does the CEL come on when its running? if so whats the code?

i accidently put my wifes maf backwards after installing an after market intake on her 3g eclipse and it was doing the same thing that 91monstertalons car is doing

3gs with a aftermarket adapter for the intake you can put on backwards but you cannot but a 1g or 2g maf on backwards.

i dont know what a 1g intake looks like i have a 2g setup i know you cant with that. it could just as easily be the o2 senser then.

and is your wastegate hooked up you said your not building any boost thats what happened to my friends laser rs i fixed the problem with a paperclip all it did was pop off. we thought it was the BOV at first

o2 sensor? WTF hes not building boost because the car is running like crap and is probably detecting knock.

doubtful its the WG as it would cause overboost, not no boost.

BTW what kind of gas are you putting in it? if your not running premium theres a chance that could be your problem

i kno i need to check the codes. 93 octane thats all i use.. when i check the codes tomarrow i'll let yall kno...thanx guys....

Is the car misfiring? Check if you have good spark, fuel and compression before anything else.

Same thing happened to my 91 GSX. It ended up being a bad plug wire arcing. Did you wait for it to cool down before you put water in it? If you put cold water in while your motor was still hot you could've warped your head.

If the wastegate flapper isn't hooked up then the actuator won't close it causing no boost. If the Wastegate vacuum hose isn't hooked up then the actuator won't open it causing overboost. But I'm gonna have to agree with r1991, if you unhooked the mas and it ran better then it could be sending a bad signal to your ecu. Replace it with a good one and see if that helps.
