What are the main differences between the 95 N/Ts , 96-97's, 98-99's?
I'm pretty sure it's just the ECU, Wiring harness, and various sensors. Any comments?

could be helpful for all those"did a swap and now the sensor has a different end" posts.

All 95's and some 96's used different ECU's than the other 96's and 97-99's altogether: FCC's as opposed to SBECIII's. The FCC's and SBECIII's were also different from one another based on transmission type and year. I've thoroughly inspected the pinouts for all SBECIII ECU's and they do vary a little across the years, though not by much (maybe one or two wires at most), so the differences must be in the firmware.

95's and Early 96's had a different crank angle sensor and quite commonly 95's were incorporated with a knock sensor.

The 95's and early 96's also incorporated the round pin harness to sensor connector for Speed Sensors, cam sensors, and coil packs while the late 96+ have the flat pins.

95's are the only year to have the FPR mounted onto the fuel rail.

Heres a couple for ya. Hope it helps.

I now have a 99 gsx but i have yet to sell my 95 n/t and it has a 98 motor, with the 95 ecu. The only problem i have had with the motor is it sputters at 4-5k. i dont believe thats a problem with the ECU but that might be one possible effect.

I personally dont believe there is a difference in the ECU because mine bolted right up.

What was the build date of your car and how many plugs does the ECU have? So we even know that you actually knoiw the year of your ECU.

I'll go look today, but i KNOW it was from a 95 because the motor came out of my old 98. The 95 motor was ripped out and dropped in. It was done in my backyard and unless the people who previously had the car in the 95 changed it, it was the stock oem one.

Here's some pictures of the ECU in my n/t.

I got a '95 as well and the built engine that I dropped in, is from a '97 or '98 (I don't remember which one). Yes, my ECU is a one plug ('95) and I just took the sensors from my '95 engine and put them on the built one.

Yeah that makes sense. As long as you changed the sensors you should be good. Otherwise the coil pack, Cam, Crank, and Speed sensors wouldnt plug into the 95 harness effectively.

I have also seen people change ECU's and sensors like you mentioned and just lose weird options because of it, like no cruise control or loss of power seats ect ect.
