But I will alway hold them in my heart. And even though I no longer wear a uniform, no matter what branch they are in. A soldier, Marine, Sailor or Airman will always be able to come to me for help in a time of need.

I agree. Those are the people I was referring to when I said the ones that want to be cool or sound cool. Whether I am able to join or not when my knee is better, I will always have respect for those that joined the military for the right reason(s).

I can tell you one thing, our forces dont go into Sadar City for certain reasons. Ask the 82nd Air Bourne Division when they went in. I can tell you it wasnt a fun few minutes once they came in.

Plus I am not as attracted to $20k as much as others may be. I can make that in months here without even getting off my ass nearly as much. $20-$30k is usually annual salary for most new recruits. Yeah, no way I'm signing that for $20k.

Not to mention the government truly ####s the shit out of vets and our society in general. We already went to war to free ourselves from taxes, yet over 1/4 of our paychecks contribute to taxes. I'll spare all of you and stop my rant there...

Don't get me wrong, I have lost many friends due to roadside bombs. My best friend since middle school has been gone in Iraq for four years and now he's in Okinowa for 2 more. He regrets all of it to the fullest. I hear this every time I speak with him. I don't think it's worth it at all and the scam is that people are selling their lives for a insulting low offer of $25k start up. Even if you doubled that, it isn't worth a life.

I went to Benning, was supposed to be 68s and attend airborne school after. Last ftx i acquired a bunch of stress fractures in my left knee, 2 weeks before graduation i got sent to Echo :-<. At this point now i have mixed feelings about it, but honestly, while i was there....im glad it happened.
Would i do it all again? Probably not, not gonna lie. The discipline aspect and all the yelling bs was nothing. The fact you HAVE to do everything you're told is a different story, hence why my friend is stuck in Korea for 2 years

You're right, I never did see "true" combat... We were never directly engaged in combat. However, were always having mortars dropped in our vicinity, and they always only fired 3 mortars.

Seeing as the insurgents would let you MP's (If you ever really were in the military) roll through Sadar City just fine.

Our company was originally going to be fire support going through Turkey, but that fell through. Then we waited for 3 months until they found a job for us. We were given control of the CHA just outside of Baghdad Int'l Airport (basically the internment camp for all those picked up on the streets for anything from curfew violations to murders). We also were given several opportunities to work with other agencies on various missions, from recon to intel.

So take your immature, undisciplined ass out of this thread.

I am far from immature, and discipline is something I have never lacked. However, since I have struck a nerve without even attempting to do so, I will remove the thread I have posted. It was never my intention to upset someone so drastically. For that I apologize.

All I ask is that you realize I was there. I've been in the shit. On our convoy leaving Baghdad, our last vehicle hit the trigger for a daisy-chain of 19 IED's that could have taken out the entire convoy. Luckily, there was a break in their setup and we all came home. Others weren't so fortunate.
