Yeah, that certainly looks cool. Reminds me of the old 300zx t-top convertibles. But you're right, that definitely compromises the structural rigidity and hurts the performance of the car.

I would have made a roll cage for it.

That was done with Dre's gsx a LONG time ago. He had to reinforce it with his 'million point' roll cage, but it's definitely do-able.

It doesn't remove any more integrity than a convertible top so it is definitely do-able especially since those cars have that as an option so you can use some stock bracing parts. Do a few rigidity upgrades and you'll be fine, you won't be winning any autox races but you can still turn hard enough to scare the shit out of your friends.
