So today it was toasy 90 out today and on my way to Oreilly's to get parts for my buddies 1gb we are sitting at the stop light and im sweating horribly. I cant just turn the fan on to move some air since the car is black and just pumps hotter air into the car, I decided to buy 134-A and a belt since my car didnt have it on it at the time. It took me about an hour to put the belt on since that was the first time I did it. got everything tighten down start it up turn the ac on to see if anything was left in the system and nothing was. So I put 32 oz of R-134-a In the car but now it pumps out some serious cold air woo hoo!!!

Now Im gonna go and get black out window tint and tint the windows tuesday. Im so happy I just did it. I thought that I could handle the heat in the car but I guess not.

Oh yeah I also got a new oil fill cap and doubled up on the gasket! I just hope that ends the oil leaking problem that was coming from the old one.

I would think 1990 would be r12. Did you do a conversion on it?

I'll never get rid of my AC! Nothing is worse sweating in your seat and coming back to work with your back just covered in sweat.

when i bought my car the belt was off the AC compressor. I wonder if the actual belt is long enough to go on the compressor.

I haven't turned my A/C on either. Only to cool engine down. I hate the idea of power being zapped for luxury.

You just need more power then you won't notice that it's on ;)

I can actually still notice the difference the AC makes when I begin moving from a stop in the Evo once in a while. After that though, I don't. I'd much rather be cool and turn the A/C off if I were to need the little bit of extra power.

a/c turns my car into a lawn mower it feels like it...but when its 98 with 100% humidity sometimes you just gotta do it. Especially when your dressed up for work or your gf is in the car bitching LOL

I never use my AC. If it starts getting warm- or nice out, windows down :)
For some reason, when I'm in a car and the AC is going, I get very nauseous and feel like crap

Yeah but Kittay you can do that because there's no traffic in Boise. Elsewhere in the country where there is, when it's 90 and humid and you're not moving, it's gross inside a car.

Kick her out.

LOL

I should probably start thinking about getting my A/C belt back on... it's starting to really warm up here in Iowa...

yup thats why i put mine on. yes its converted to 134-a its okay though if I need the extra power just shut it off for a couple of seconds and the car stays cool inside for that little bit of time. hell its a black car so it makes it worse.

LOL she doesnt bi*** to often...she is usually cold ALL the time so i dont have to worry about it. But when it gets warm down here it gets WARM and it makes not sense to sweat like that. Most of the time I take the beach and roll the windows down...there is always a nice breeze and you dont need a/c but when you are stuck in traffic and its in the high 90s with a 100% humidity its a must. I dont care how long you have lived in the south, or similar place with this kinda humidity, you never really get used to it. in july and august its still 90 with 100% humidity at 2 in the morning. You walk out of a club and can barely breath. the few years i lived in Iowa it got in the 100s often in the summer but its dry heat. Nothing like down here when its 89 with 100% humidity and you are pouring sweat within a couple mins of being outside...im a fat ass so that doesnt help either ROFL ROFL

Ya know sometimes i feel like that but i think its more having the windows rolled all the way up. I cant do it for some reason. I have to have the window cracked atleast at all times. I dont care how hot or cold it is. Everything gets very quiet when the windows are up and I feel funny. with the window down i hear road noise and the wind and it makes me concentrate on driving more. with the windows up i get distracted easier i guess. all that sounded really stupid but maybe im just claustrophobic(sp) and dont know it LOL

Isn't it nice to have air!!! Keeping the AC running and fully charged is a must for me.

There was about 4-5 years that i couldn't run it because the slim line fans couldn't keep up with the air needed when the AC was on. I would constantly overheat after about 10 minutes of using it, even on the interstate.

So, this last year i ended up building new IC pipes that allowed me to put the stock fans back on and just today i was running errands all day in 80* stop and go traffic with the AC cranked the whole time and there were no overheating issues what so ever!!!!!!!!! WoooHoooo you don't know how happy that makes me, i've always had the rule that if the car was so built the AC wouldn't work, then it was time to "un-build" it until i could use the air. Now i've built it more (cams and a few other things) and by just using the stock fans on the stock radiator the car stays right where it should!

Wait, people still have a/c on these cars? Ahhh sometimes i wish i would have kept mine in..

LOL.. There's actually a bit of traffic.. well mainly caused by retarded drivers.

But yuh Neeland, I have that feeling too, where you have to have the windows down a bit, even in the winter and blast the heat :)

That's just your "inner pimp" showing it's roots LOL

I'll drive in sub-30 degree weather with the window 1/3 down and the heat blasting LOL

I'm glad this thread was started. I haven't used my a/c at all since last summer. But..I dont think I wanna go through this damn heat again with no a/c. I tried recharging the a/c but it all goes away after a couple days. Anybody know the most common place a leak in the a/c system would be?
