No matter what anyone says, if any of us where to be in the same situation. We would have faced a much harder sentencing. He might not have gotten the full punishment of the law, but he did get a "fluffed" one at that... Seems like people with the money/ spotlight are always coming out ahead. Frustrating, Oh well. I know plenty of people who got off easy on situations thats should've lead to far worse punishment and they werent Nick , nor were they rich.
You never know what any situation would lead to so no point to second guess it, and think about people that get worse punishment just due to race or religion; Its similar to your comparison of a regular guy and Nick, so unfortunantly shit isnt fair and nothing is equal in this world so just hope the cards are in your favor....

That kid is not very intelligent. I don't get how people can even put themselves into a situation where if they don't have very great driving skills they would hit a PALM TREE??

There is a reason why its called an accident or in better terms SHIT HAPPENS, just be glad it hasn't happened to you. As much as I love my best friend(yes i'm not ashamed to say it) I would die inside knowing that a slight mistake in my judgement almost killed him and has left him a cripple. By the way his friend should have had a seat belt on, like I tell people if you're are going to do something wrong do it right. E.g wear long plastic gloves before you stab your a-hole boss

Yes.

While it's not good wish injuries upon anyone, that still isn't an excuse for not punishing him for what happened or condeming his actions all the same.

He'll be out in 5-6 months.

Dude in the passenger seat won't be, though.

Sorry guys, when all is said and done the driver is responsible for the safety of his or her passengers. Nick is responsible for what happened.

Speak for yourselves. Not all of us drove with impetuous folly as young adults.

Years ago, some punk kid street racers forced myself and my pregnant wife off the road. If I hadn't the need for a tow truck, I likely would have attempted to catch the kids and strangle their pathetic little necks in a fit of rage induced vigilante justice.

People of legal driving age are supposed to be at level of mental maturity to understand the consequences of their actions and have the fortitude to drive vigilantly. It is unfortunate that we seem to be at the cusp of mankind's devolution, when people think it is acceptable and expected that young adults and teenagers act recklessly with little regard to anything other than their perceived status amongst their equally devolved peers.

Perhaps states should begin requiring a mental examination as a prerequisite to a driving permit, or increase the minimum driving age, since it is socially expected that a person at or around the current minimum age will make a seemingly active effort to put themselves and other folk in harm's way while driving a vehicle.

No matter how you view this event, it took place and some one got hurt really bad, this is no accident accidents don't happen when your risking it all to show off!! I feel for the guy (Nick) but nothing he does or says will make his friend walk again.
