My car feels like its running on 3 cylinders. I replaced the coil pack because I felt that this was the problem. Seems as though it is not. I did replace it with a brand new coil pack but it still is doing the same thing.

I was going to try the power transistor next but then I though about all the other things it could be as well.

Anyone have a better idea as to what it may be so that I dont spend tons of time and money on nothing.

I checked the spark plug wires and they all seem to work fine.

Plugs all seem to be fine. They were gapped to .028 like they are supposed to be. BPR7's

No, its just a lot more sporadic then that. An STI sounds smooth. My car is running rather poorly.

I think I may have a coil connector not plugged in. I have a round clip on the same part of the coil pack, and power transistor part of the engine harness thats not plugged in. I can not see where this plug actually plugs in. Any help with that part.

That plug sounds like the AC Compressor plug. Im not sure where that would be located on a 1g, but on a 2g it is right around the coil pack & transistor.

Maybe the wrx/sti analogy was not a good example.

Are you able to boost at all? Does the entire car "shake" HARD when you accelerate?

From the information given, it is pretty hard to diagnose.

Yes it shakes pretty hard. Its not firing at the right speed. Its not specific to one cylinder either.

I was told about the A/C plug alread as well. I will try and see if it goes underneath the intake manifold or something, because I dont see a plug around the coil pack or near the power transistor. It must be pretty close by though.

That would be really dumb and annoying. I know DSM's are known to break and all, but come on.

It may very well be dumb and annoying, but it could still be the problem. You need to start testing parts instead of replacing them. Trust me, I've been through all this. The power transistor could cause your problems, but test it first to be sure before you replace it. You've already swapped the coil pack so you can scratch that off the list. Have you checked or replaced the plug wires?? If you run through the list and everything tests good you may consider taking the advice stated before to pull the ecu. After you pull it out of the car take the case off the circuit board. A common occurance for 1G's is leaky capacitors on the board of the ECU. There will be a clear substance that looks a lot like wax if the caps are leaking.

Also, is your 1G throwing any trouble codes??

Im going to check my spark plug wires next. Im fine with replacing my coil pack, as the old one was actually cracking where the spark plug wires go.

I will test the power transistor after that.

My A/C is actually removed from the car, so I suppose I dont have to worry about that much.

I will have to do a compression test after that as well. I would surely hope its not that though. This motor has a pretty good build, so I would think that it is still healthy.

Thanks for all the input this far though.

my motto is cheap stuff first... plugs, wires, ignitor, compression test....I would replace the plugs if you haven't already. I have cracked porceline on plugs before and caused exactly what you are describing. good luck.

I did buy new plugs and will be putting them in. But that wasnt the problem

Conclusion to this thread...NEW SPARK PLUG WIRES!!! I still think thats pretty stufpid. I cant believe it was the wires. Usually mine have worked, or just havent worked at all. Its pretty simple really. Apparently not with DSM's. I have had my fist problem and Im sure its not the last, and it was stupid.
