wish someone could tell me where to get this i went to buy it and haven't seen it on ebay for months.

wow strong first post

Judging from their recent feedback, they have lost care in what they do. I would proceed with caution in buying from them. They are definitely restricted on their amount of listings and probably close to being canned.

I actually got really lucky. I bought mine off ebay from someone who received this system accidentally. Apparently, he ordered headers for a pickup truck (I think from juicyjems...not sure), but instead received the full 3" system for a 99 gsx. When he tried to return the system, there was a discrepancy over who would pay the $100 shipping to get the huge box back to the original seller, so he just decided to resell it himself on ebay.

He personally delivered it to my work 3 days after I bought it on ebay...can't beat that.

I recommend you just buy the system from SSautochrome...it looks to me like the same exact system. To tell you the truth, had I known SSautochrome sold the system, I'd have bought it from them weeks ago instead of searching ebay every night for it. To me, it's still underpriced at $300-400. But just remember, it's not really "stainless steel." As long as you're ok with that, you wont be disappointed.

Why is it not stainless?

As for the fartcan, it looks exactly like the SSAutochrome website and exactly like atleast one other forum member with the same kit.

And how did you get a hi-flo cat? Do that after the fact? The SSAutochrome one has a test pipe. If you added a cat, that will knock the sound level down. For me, it was the combination of a ricer look and a gawd-aweful drone that put me over the edge. I cut the noise level a bit with the twin-tip magnaflow, but now it looks MUCH better IMO.

Well, let me clarify...it is stainless, but not the kind of stainless we think of. There are many different grades of stainless (i.e. 304, etc.). This system is made of is very soft "SUS 304" stainless steal - whatever that means - but it's very soft.

As far as the cat goes, the older versions of this exhaust system were sold with a test pipe. The newer versions are sold with a "Race Cat." Did they lie to me? Is the "Race Cat" a test pipe?

And I do agree on the look...that tip is waaaay too big. Haven't decided what I'm going to do about that yet.

Im really thinking of buying this exhaust, but does it really matter if its not high grade stainless steel? I dont want to be buying a different exhaust in the future, im planning on 350-450hp for future. And I thought the noise was good? Now all the sudden u guys are saying its all rice?

A 3" exhaust is a 3" exhaust. The bends on this exhaust are mandrel, and it's a relatively straight-through design. To me, the steal being a little on the soft side has no negative implications that I can think of.

My only two complaints about this exhaust are that the downpipe flange had to be notched a little to fit (very easy since the material is soft), and the outlet at the end of the muffler is a little too big for my taste.

That being said, I completely love the sound and performance I've seen out of this system. I can't really see anyone being disappointed with what you get for the money. Worst case scenario is that you don't like the muffler sound/looks and you swap out the canister. Still a terrific buy.

To elaborate further on the sound, since this seems to be a major decision point for you (as it should be):

At idle, sounds like stock. On light acceleration, still on the quiet side with a hint of a deep grumble. With normal driving and part-throttle acceleration, it is loudest in between shifts. This is the only aspect of the exhaust sound to me that could be even remotely considered as "rice." It is deep, but a TAD ricey - but only until the next gear is engaged. Under full acceleration, it sounds to me like a symphony - LOL. It's hard to explain - definitely not ricey. I would describe it as airy (sound of the turbo reverberates), deep, and aggressive but not overly aggressive. Honestly, to me, the only thing I have heard like it at WOT is a Ferrari or some other Italian exotic. And when you let off the gas after a WOT pull to redline, it lets off this awesome sound that I can't even try to describe. As you can tell, I am a strong proponent of this system's sound - and I am against ricey sounding exhausts.

I'd be very surprised it you buy it and are not happy with it.

I got the same exhaust i put a resinator where cat goes and a magna flow can on the back and the tone hasent changed a bit for 2 years I sold the car to a friend a year ago still no probems no leaks I think the piping alone is worth the money it withstanded 3 years now with wisconsin weather thats pretty good for aftermarket around here

thanks for that GSxDNA, yea im really picky about sound cause when i had my 420a it was an annoying sound and my car always vibrated cause of the loud exhaust. Now im looking for something clean and aggressive but not ricy or something that makes the car vibrate. Ive heard the Apexi N1 and that sounds pretty nice, I was still looking for something quiter like stock, but I guess it impossible unless I add resonator or change muffler, which ill probably end up doing depending on how it sounds.

Thanks for that though ill definitly end up buying it

I wasn't aware that they sold a model of the SSAutochrome 3" turboback with a cat. By test pipe, I mean that there is just 3" pipe where you'd normally find a cat; it's not something you can unbolt and bolt up a cat; you'd have to cut the DP and have flanges welded, etc.

To me, going from stock to the 3" with the test pipe was a massive increase in exhaust volume between 2500 and 3100rpm. It set car alarms off in parking garages (the car alarm in question is obviously sensitive, because my old pickup truck also set it off once). Even after swapping in a twin-tip magnaflow muffler (still straight-through), it's still loud in that RPM range. If I'm cruising on the interstate, it happens to often fall in that RPM range, and the drone gets old fast. A loud stereo helps, but it still bothers me. On the other hand, when you get on it, it sounds like business! I hear the turbine clearly along with the grumble of the wastegate flow, and it's impressive.

I've heard that a cat will help a lot with how loud the exhaust is, so if you can make sure you're getting the cat with the system, I'd do it. I think that the bulk of the system (from the DP flange to the muffler) is probably as good as anything you'd need, and the price is certainly great (especially if you can get it at that price with a cat).

Keep in mind that swapping out the can-style muffler isn't free. I worked hard on mine and did everything but the welding myself, and it still cost $300 extra (muffler, tips, some tools I didn't already have, and paying the welder). But I've never seen a SS 3" turboback that has a muffler/tips design on a 2gb Talon that satisfies my personal preference. And the metal fabrication experience was great.

So I say go for it. If you don't like the look and/or sound, live with it while you save up to have it "fixed". If you haven't taken a look atleast at the pictures from the "Axleback+muffler..." link above, that'll give you a lot more information about that exhaust.

Good luck!

EDIT: Looking at the SSAutochrome site, the picture for this system shows what I got...exactly. The left-most pipe in the image is the downpipe. The farthest section of that downpipe in the image where it is straight is where a cat *would* go. It's not in that picture. Maybe the picture is out of date and they now include a cat, but I'd email/call them to find out for sure if that matters to you. The other "cans" on the B-pipe are resonators, not cats. Stock exhaust has two resonators as well, but it also has a cat, and the muffler includes baffles (not straight-through).

So your saying the test pipe is what increases the amount of noise the exhaust gives? I thought all you had to do to soften or change noise was change the muffler? I thought it doesnt really matter what brand of exhaust you get because all it is is pipes and the muffler was the one that had a different sound for each "brand" exhaust system? Sort of confused cause I your post is making me double think if I should just buy a brand name LOL.

Thats weird that they are the same products and being sold by the same company and yet one is being sold for 199 and the other being sold for 325. Is one price wholesale or something?

You can get that juicygems/ss autochrome 3" turboback for 2g gsx cheaper over here

DSM 95-99 Talon TSI Eclipse GSX AWD 3" Super Exhaust

its $199, and shipping is $40

juicygems is $199 and $100 shipping

ssautochrome is $325 plus who knows how much shipping is.

That site you posted is the new ssautochrome site. They told me there taking down ssautochrome.com and to buy from the infopia one for cheaper prices.

By the way I ordered already, cant wait to get it! Ill actually post vids and pics unlike others LOL

So I bought this exhaust off of ebay for $140 ($45 + $95 for shipping). I had actually started putting the car back to stock and selling the parts off because I needed the money a couple months ago. That included the RS*R cat-back that I absolutely loved  Anyway, the stock exhaust is choking the 16G that's still on there, and I hate how much slower the car has become. I don't want to put too much money into mods, but I figured I could splurge $140 for an exhaust. I just got notification that it shipped via FedEx. However, it shows that the shipping weight is 15lbs!? I'm thinking the muffler itself is going to weigh more than 15lbs. It will be interesting to see what I get when it arrives next week.

Well, I finally just got finished putting the exhaust on. I painted all of it with barbecue grill paint except for the tip. I'm not really a fan of the huge tip, but whatever. Anyway, I started it up with the door open and it's louder than I had hoped. Went to the back of the car and it sounded even louder. At least it wasn't a ricey high-pitched weedwacker sound, but a deep rumbling sound. Standing in front of the car and with the doors closed it wasn't too bad.

One problem I came across was the hanger in front of the gas tank. It was welded on at an angle so the rubber mount is kind of twisted. Also, it was welded on too low, because the flanges are pulled right up to the bottom of the car. There's no rattling because I put some exhaust wrap to pad it, but I'm definitely going to fix that tomorrow. What's worse is because it's pulling up on the piping, the muffler is pointing downwards.

All in all, I'm satisfied with what I got for about $140 (but I still miss the RS*R  ). I'm getting a downpipe off of ebay for slightly less than this exhaust  I already have a cat and a car chemistry insert that will hopefully quiet the exhaust a little more. I had one on my last setup, and it made a noticeable difference especially when decelerating in gear. It eliminated that booming noise almost completely.

So from where did you buy it? I placed my order from infopia (new ssautochrome site) and it coming tuesday!cant wait. So I guess the exhaust is loud :( Im going to go to an exhaust shop and fix it then. What exactly did it come with in your kit? Like mine said:

He has a FWD, so it might just be teh catback, new gaskets, bolts, and silencer. At least thats what came on the catback we ordered on ebay for our 2g fwd.

Us AWD guys are lucky we have that complete package you mentioned for such a great price. Just make sure to tell the exhaust shop about the mount they have to rotate when they install it. Reference the wiseman's post with pics to see what I'm talking about. I believe he said that was the only situation, other than the many times he complained about the "ricer" tip.:) But what DSM catback let a lone any import exhaust doesn't come with one. heh

yea thats true, i noticed my stock one pretty rusted cant wait for the shine :) so im assuming you have the same exhaust? if so how you like it? The people who have it dont show a clip or nothing :( yet they say the sound is so unexplainable but in a good way. I guess ill be the first to show it off on here :) :dsm:

I fixed the ricer tip :p

I'm not sure if what he got is the same as mine. The DP is 2.5 to the end of the flex, and there is no race cat.

Aside from flipping the hanger, I also had to modify the DP inlet flange bolt holes. They won't fit the O2 studs.

ok hear is what I dont understand is 1. I cant seem to find any exhaust 3" from the turbo back for my 91 AWD talon. I want it to angle a bit like I have seen on a couple of cars in this post and even have the 4'5" out the rear. so am I looking in the wrong spots? 2. If you are so worried about sound then why do anything to your exhaust? cause if you think about it no matter what muff you use its still going to be way louder then stock especially if you remove the cat. I personally like the loud, deep grumble of the turbo back exhaust. I just want the 3" all the way out the rear, to a 4.5" outlet muff.... so any likes will be greatly appretiated.

No race cat? I hate when they dont update pics or anything. They just update the description on their site. Ill take some pics when it comes in tomorrow. What about a sound clip with that new muffler?

And I really wish I had stock sound in exhaust thats why im worried, I dont like too loud that the car shakes cause of the damn noise. I used to have a megan racing exhaust on my 420a and it sounded ok but damn it was loud as hell, that you couldnt hear the passenger talk since it was soo loud and annoying. But if I want to do get in the 300hp what do I need????? a damn aftermarket exhaust. :D
