I have read a couple of threads on ebay intercoolers but just wondering which ones out there that are actually good? Allot of them have something that goes like this

"Good for up to 500bhp(I have seen from 350-600). all our intercooler has been tested to withstand more then 80psi pressure and it has very small pressure drop across the end tanks, at 15psi inlet the out let has 14.8psi that means it has only 0.2 psi pressure drop ,compare to many other intercoolers it is an excellent figure (some intercooler has 1-2psi pressure drop) also at the same condition, the temperature has drop from 120 degree to 28 degree ( and it is an excellent figure for efficiency"

Is the above statement just a bunch of bs or true? Has anyone tried the Megan racing FMIC? I think it's crazy to spend 700+ on a core and piping. I really don't care about name brands I just want it to work. Kinda like a Dave Brode part or Megan Racing or Johnny Racecar FMIC all cheap but effective with great quality. Here are just a couple of FMIC I'm talking about that look good but do they perform and will they last? Please chime in if you have a ebay FMIC or had one especially if it worked or did not work well for you. thanks

Megan FMIC

No name brand but has the standard psi and efficiency spill

Street Imports FMIC

XOXO Core but has good feedback on the core

Does anyone have any install pictures they can post of cutting a 2GA eclipse front bumper / crash bumper? Thanks.

i purchased a jdm fmic from ebay and havent had any problems with it. It seems to work great. The colds side always is cool to the touch. i don't like the routing of the pipe, but that can be modified. I'd say its worth the money.

I am also looking into buying an ebay fmic. I am purchasing a 14b from a friend of mine for cheap and i was wondering if a 24x12x3 size is too big ? If it is what would be a decent size for a turbo that size ? Also i dont plan on boosting more than 18 psi.

I can get you some pics of my bumper when I take it off in about 2 days.

It's already cut for the 24x12x3 intercooler.

That would be cool, but yours is a 2gb bumper. I'm more interested in a 2ga bumper. Here are some pictures of the bumper showing where I plan on cutting...Someone tell me if I'm close. I wanted to leave part of the plastic crash bumper in place so that it will support the front cover (if there's any way to do that). Please feel free to photochop them and direct me that way. Thanks.

most of you guys are happy with your ebay fmic's and I get on to order one, and cant find any of the XS or XO or any of them. where'd they go? I want to find a whole kit, (intercooler, and piping) I want to get the short route piping, but dont wanna order seperate and it not fit the fmic I ordered. Who ordered short route and intercooler seperate, if so which ones? Links please

NEED OPINION:
i was a n00b and bought this universal intercooler piping kit from ebay like 8 months ago (i already have the FMIC) and i want to install it but im afraid i will run into problems not having the right angles, enough pipping, etc. Can someone please tell me if the pieces it came with will work:

1 Set - Mandrel-bent Aluminum Polished 3" pipes (1/16" thickness, total length of 18")
2 Pieces - 90 Degrees Mandrel-bent Pipes
2 Pieces - 75 Degrees Mandrel-bent Pipes
2 Pieces - 45 Degrees Mandrel-bent Pipes
8 Pieces - Racing Blue Straight Couplers ~
2 Pieces - Racing Blue 90 Degree Elbows Couplers

Here's a link of the kit:

greatly appreciate some feedback and comments on what i can do...

I only found a long route one
However i haerd there s not much of a difference performance wise, if any, it s mostly the installation the difference.
However the pipes are not beeded..

Mochili, I think you should be fine, you ll have a lot of cutting and welding to do, ,(beeding too if possible)(+ the bov flange), the only thing is , IMO 3 inch is VERY large for fmic piping, 2.25 or 2.50 is good imo

i bought my intercooler for $72 on ebay. excellent quality, brand new JDMsport. fit good. had custom piping made works great. the pipe exiting my turbo hits near 200 degrees. the pipe leaving intercooler usually about 110. so i know this has a verry good cooling effect

I picked up a TRUST (greddy) Intercooler for 40 bucks shipped. Kid had no idea what it was and i happened to be lucky and use the buy it now option before anyone else could snatch it. And by the way, i have an Ebay Evo III 16g turbo with 25k miles on it and i still pull high 13's at the track, just food for thought on all you people who think ebay items are junk.

A lot of those companies violated ebay's "rules" (which are way to strict) and sold what were considered to be knockoffs of other companies items which lead to removal of all of the XS and other companies on ebay.

What is the best way to keep the bumper straight if you cut the whole plastic crash bumper out?

Have a local fabricator make you a support out of chrome-moly tubing. It can mount in the stock locations, save a bunch of weight, it's still very strong(stronger than the fiberglass stocker), and it won't restrict airflow and free space around the fmic.

thats the answer I was looking for, thanks! too bad, their hard to find now

Good thing i got my XS O2 housing just in time and its a nice piece of work :thumb:

Its just a universal, some cutting, bending, and other modification of the pipes will be necessary. Check ssautochrome.com for their 2g kit, its a "bolt on" that actually bolts on for the most part and has the same flange for the type s / rs bov. You'll be looking at a little bit more maybe $50 at most but it will be worth it. I got a universal piping kit from eBay and it fit with minimal modification, I cut 2 pipes and bent the jpipe to more of a check mark shape I guess and it fit without any problems.

On the jpipe, I took 2 large steel poles which happened to fit perfectly over the ends of the pipe, layed one on the ground and stood on it and pulled up on the other one. I don't know if thats giving you a visual. Basically you need something that will either fit inside or over the pipe snugly to prevent it from pinching the pipe and long enough to give you leverage to be able to actually bend it. You'll need something that fits snugly inside of the pipe for sure though to keep it from deforming.

Edit: I went with a universal because I have been waiting for them to get the 2g kit back in stock for some time now and they still don't have it. I think you can find the xs power kits on eBay as well but they seem to be kind of hard to find now. eBay Motors: 95-99 Talon 4G63 2G FMIC Turbo Intercooler+Piping Kit (item 260240679560 end time May-21-08 22:29:07 PDT)

That one is pretty similar but I'm not sure if its the exact same, its a little more expensive through eBay as well

i posted this earlier: but no1 answered...

me and my bro are going to install my intercooler kit within the next two weeks: i have the FMIC and an universal intercooler piping kit (both bought separate off ebay):

2 Pieces - 90 Degrees Mandrel-bent Pipes
2 Pieces - 75 Degrees Mandrel-bent Pipes

i heard i am going to have to do a long route and bend/cut some pipes. What does a long route entail? where will the piping be going so i have a good idea before i start this whole thing i have 3" piping, some people say thats a lil big, but will it not still work? Will the bumper get in the way when i want to reinstall it after? will i have to put anything into the actual piping? (sensors, etc). i am only 8 months into learning about DSM's and this will be my first major project....my bro is a 3rd year mechanic apprentice, so he'll be able to do alot (i hope) and i know where i can get the pipes bent/cut/welded, i just gotta find out the angles. If anyone has links to instructions or even better picture instructions, i would greatly appreciated it. Thanks :talon:

As soon as someone answers me, i will post pics of my attempt to install my FMIC, wish me luck!

P.S anyone else use the universal intercooler piping on their DSM?
