WOW!!!!! Talk about revived thread..LOL
Man I couldn't be happier with this turbo, I am pounding out 26-27 psi right now. Over the winter I added a few goodies and tuned it. But I am going to have to re tune since the weather is now warming up...LOL
Man this is great to see so many other people having good luck so far!!!!

KEEP IT UP GUYS :thumb:

....in a thread specifically about the EVO III GT (sold by turbochargers.com a while back), the OP said he was hitting full boost late as well.

I'm sure this is due, in part, to the internals of the "GT" turbos not being made to MHI specs. The turbine's aren't made of inconel, and the compressor wheel's blades are much thicker on a GT 16G than an MHI EvoIII 16G for durability. At best, it should spool the same as a MHI Big 16G.

I'll post some pics later comparing the MHI Big 16G, MHI EvoIII 16G, and knockoff GT 16G compressor wheels.

Here's an interesting post regarding some of the issues one guy had with HIS T3 eBay special:

So you want a bigger turbo?

About 2/3 of the way down the page:

This turbo is complete garbage! DO NOT even think about buying one of these on ebay, you could end up getting screwed like I did. They are all over the place with cheapass names like XS-Power, superpower, etc etc. Usually selling between $350 and $450 and featuring auctions that contain no real information about the product, these turbos are cheap knockoffs of the actual thing. The supposed "stage 3 turbine" they included with it was the right bore size, but was absolutely not a REAL garrett stage 3 turbine. The seat for the compressor wheel was machined incorrectly, causing this brand new turbo to hammer the compressor wheel into the housing, sending shards of aluminum into my intercooler piping. I ended up with a wrecked turbo and a bunch of pipes to clean out, but considering what happened I was actually lucky. The seller refused to answer my e-mails and it was just out of the time period that PayPal can take action. DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE TURBOS; YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!"

...and further toward the bottom:

"Total costs associated with upgrading the turbo:
-Turbocharger $399 shipped
-Stock exhaust housing bore $100 + $28 shipping both ways
-Boring exhaust elbow $2.87 (dremel grinding wheel) and lots of patience.
-Selling Turbonetics stage 3 exhaust housing on Ebay -$100
-New OEM manifold-turbo gasket $12.24
-New oil inlet and return gaskets $1.06
-"Cobra head" intake elbow $20.44 + $9.30 shipping
-3" Hose clamps for elbows $1.31
----------------------------------
Total cost of turbo upgrade had the turbo been built properly: $474.22
----------------------------------
Shipping worn out stock T3 turbo to AZ Turbo $14.26 (Joel was a pleasure to work with, 888-253-9950)
-NEW turbo built from stock T3 center section, REAL stage 3 turbine and T04S 60-1 compressor $420.00 shipped
-New gaskets $13.30
-New OEM oil line for turbocharger warranty $44.65
-Silicone reducers for fitment of turbo (4" inlet and 2.5" outlet) $39.45
-One foot of 3" aluminized heavy duty exhaust piping $5.00
-Grade 8 bolt and nut $1.35
----------------------------------
Total cost on the second turbo (including items needed for installation) = $538.01
Total ammount spent on turbos = $1012.23"

That's for all you guys who bought an eBay EvoIII and had it die in 80 miles, then ended up buying an MHI 16G to replace it. :tease:

25psi to redline with 272s is nice. Please dyno this if you have the cash. Get a dyno tune even. There's alot in the tune with 272s from my experience. 25 psi with 272s and stock displacement/intake is 390+ whp territory.

Thanks a lot, yeah i need to do that, but really didn't feel like getting everything tuned up during the winter time. when it starts to get really nice out and i know that all the snow is finished is when i am going to get it retuned and everything
already sitting at 354WHP from last summer, now i have no clue with the boost up more and the Cams :sneaky:

I'd like to go for a ride in your car and check out this ebay thing. Maybe I'll see you at the meets this summer. I live a town or 2 over from you.

i know it was a while back but i'd like to comment on boosted98gsx's zealous posting. a lot of dsmer's around this area are good friends with the guys (and girl) of FP. they are very proud of FP turbos and take it personally when their friends (at FP) are threatened in any way. also, i have seen his setup. this guy is the definition of "do it right or do it twice." he spares no expense and that alone deserves some respect. i hope this clears up his behavior :)

on topic, i have seen plenty of failed ebay turbos, external wastegates and blow off valves. enough to know that their reliability is a very real issue. that said, i don't discredit those who have good luck with them. i think there are enough documented cases proving that they CAN work, and work well.

well just tuned a car today that put down 310hp/308lbs at 20-21psi on on one of these,i was very suprised.intake,exh,fmic,550's and pump, afc and 93oct. spooled quik too. 95 gsx

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YET ANOTHER SUCESS!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE IT......
This spring i am hopeing to stomp into the 400hp market :thumb:
Keep it up brother :rocks:

Mine just arrived friday and will be installing it after I port the bejesus out of the wastegate hole. They really need to address that hole though, it's more of a common sense thing. My ebay xtd 6 puck clutch just went out after 20k , so I just dropped 450 on an act 2100 and a used streetlite fw. The ebay ssac fmic is holding up well though. I might dyno tune it this spring/summer too, local guys are charging $60 for 3 pulls. I'll be more than happy for anything north of 300whp.

I ran the ebay 16g for about 8k miles last year. Granted it was only at 12 psi on a stock exhaust car it did just fine. When I upgraded to a 3" TBE it creeped uncontrollably. Turns out the WG wasn't opening all the way. I ordered a 34mm flapper from FP, ported out the WG hole and the creep went away. The adjustable WG was adjusted way to far out and I could never get it dialed it. I just swapped it out for a 14B WGA. Worked perfect after that. When I finally pulled the turbo off (I upgraded, the turbo is still in use with minor shaft play) it was not smoking or anything. The turbo frequently saw triple digit oil pressure at the track and sometimes on the street. My brother has the turbo now. It has still not seen anything over 12-13psi for a long duration (atleast not on purpose). Still pulls hard.

Just had my tans built, and turned up my boost to about 27ish and man ohhh man, this little ebay turbo is "The Engine That Could"...LOL....Little guys keeps chuggin :thumb:

Good Luck To Everyone :thumb:

Yea I think mine was like $269 shipped or so. It was missing some nuts and bolts, but oh well, I just used the old ones. The wg arm was WAY out, I had to adjust it a lot. Just a little bit of tension on the flapper was all I did.

Sure, just give me a few days. I really need to get my wideband o2 mounted to make things easier.
