As some of you may know, I've been doing alot of stuff to the car. Its been in the mechanic for a few weeks now. The mechanic told me that if I wanted to change the oil pump, now would be the best time because the engine was still off the car. So, I purchased the oil pump. The oil pump came without a gasket. Now, I'm going crazy looking for an oil pump gasket. I've been to tons of shops, can't find any. The only shops that say they can find the gasket will charge over 20 dollars, and they'd have to order it. In one shop, they told me I could use a sheet of asbestos or something like that to build my own gasket. Another option I recieved was to simply use cilicone. Anyone have any suggestions?

Most of the engine rebuild kits come with those, so any store that sells them can/may not
open them up for your gasket. Even autozone carries those, haven't used an autozone
gasket on that though. Theres rolls of gasket material that you can buy, draw/trace it
and cut it out. I bought one and always find a use for it, and it never fails me. Cheap too
I got it at autozone, GL

Gasket Material? They told me to get a roll of asbestos paper... Or something like that. What's the name of "gasket" material? How reliable would the gasket be?

Tt would work fine if you have good tools to create it out of gasket material (you can get gasket material in rolls at any auto store). I would do this if it is your last resort, the OE gasket should only cost a few dollars (8 dollars at JNZTuning) and you don't have to worry about doing something wrong with manually making the gasket.

Yeah I'd definitly rather have an OEM gasket than make my own... Could you please provide a link? The one I found in JNZTuning was less than 2 dollars!

Just letting you guys know... I'm going to get a FULL Gasket set for around 40 dollars, and just take the oil pump gasket from the set. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

its 6.99 or so at Autozone and it comes with the front case seal, main seal and all the balance shaft seals as well as the oil pump pickup tube seal. the housing to the oil pump DOES NOT (read that twice) use a gasket. only oil pump related gaskets are the front engine case seal and the oil pickup tube seal. the gasket set is part # TCS45565-1 and is listed as a "timing cover seal." at the Zone and is not even listed at O'rielly but they can order it with the part number. i can get the number off the package if you need that. its sitting outside.

what's all in that kit for $40?? when I got the top end of the engine (head, intake & exhaust manifold, throttle body, etc.) gasket set it cost me $150 and that was half price!! you Americans are lucky to have everything so cheap...
