Whats up all...After reading almost every post on external oil coolers I am still lost on what to use to hook the thing up. Im using the stock cooler off a 90 Talon and I want to upgrade to -AN lines..Now Ive read that i need a set of 16x1.5mm -10an fittings for the oil pump feeds. Does the cooler itself take the same size and if so where do I find these fittings? Part #s would be great. Thanks, Joe

I guess the most important question I still have and no one has answered...

what is the thread on the motor??

I just need to know that so I can eliminate the banjo fittings

My lines are AN-8 and I used a Setrab cooler I bought on Ebay

Summit and Baker Precision http://www.bakerprecision.com/ have AN fittings galore.
Here's a shot of the plumbing on my car, in and out of the filter housing.
It's pretty easy. The hoses lead to a Setrab like the one in the auction which is a tight fit on a 2G with ABS

See I am a little skeptikal about using used oil coolers. I have a few stock 90's in my garage but I am hesitant because I dont know about their past. Did you fluch/clean your Setrab in anyway?

The threads on the oil filter housing are the same as whats on the 90 oil cooler itself. Im running -8an lines, -10 is prob the biggest I would go, -6 is IMO too small.

I'd not be concerned. Soak them in kerosene overnight, agitate and flush, run some compressed air through them and leave out there on a rock in Bullhead for a day. The first stop for the oil after the cooler is the filter.

I'll go ahead and try this, thanks for the advice Defiant.

I just finished my setrab install using -8AN lines and it works great. Once the oil gets warm enough, the valve opens and you'll know pretty quickly if you have any leaks.

Don't forget to get the mitsubish o-ring washers to keep it from leaking at the housing. I got mine from MachV along with the 90 oil filter housing.

The Setrab I received looked to be new and unused. There were even AN plugs on the inlets.

Sorry... It's 16x1.5mm adapting to AN-10.
My cooler is a Setrab and uses a plug that's M22 and adapts to what ever AN size you choose, in my case AN-8. How the '90 cooler is set up, I can't say.
Check out Summit, I believe they're got it in stock with the best pricing and fast shipping

Yeah I think your right, unless I am reading this wrong.
Just follow the arrows in the diagram. After the filter the oil goes to the cooler and to the engine. If the cooler was before the filter, dirt in the oil would settle out leaving behind a buildup, which could come loose all at once and REALLY fubar the engine. So the cooler gets filtered oil.

I found it th parker part # is something like

16m8f....

16mm for the block and a 8-an JIC for the output then I just got a 8-an to 3/8 barb adapter. to hook the lines right up.

So if you did spin a bearing or did something else that would contaminant the oil, theoretically the filter would filter it out before it ever touched the oil cooler.

Yeah, theoretically, unless the filter filled up with gunk, then the filters bypass valve would let the junk through. The oil pump wouldn't look too pretty, tho.

I'd still clean out an old cooler before putting it on, just to make sure.

can any one tell me the correct thread size/pitch for running your oil feed from the filter housing. i have an air cooled filter housing.

thanks,

i am going to run the oil feed for my turbo from the oil filter housing.

i am trying to find out the thread size/pitch of the plug you need to remove to put the adapter fitting in... so i can run the oil supply for the turbo from the oil filter housing.

It was already stated that this is backwards. But I figured I'd point out that the bypass valve shuts oil off to the filter when pressure reachs 15psi. If you received full pressure at cruising speeds you would blow it OUT!! With this being said I can say that the oil filter is only used at idle (or anytime when pressure is below 15psi) thus when cruising oil flows past the filter straight to the cooler. I wouldn't be too worried about it clogging up unless you dont change your oil at the recommended intervals. You could clean the cooler every 10k miles if you want to be sound of mind.

Alright, I recently picked up a 90 housing and cooler and the metric to AN fittings that I ordered for the housing don't fit properly. I picked up some 16 x 1.5 mm to 8AN fittings and the metric side seemed to be way too big to even come close to fitting. It even said on the packaging that it was 16 x 1.5 mm to 8AN. I sent it back and the guy is sending me new fittings. Does anybody know what the deal is?

I also found out the hard way that my lines were 6AN instead of 8AN. I'm assuming this is an alright size. I hear some people say it's way too small and some say it's OK. What do you guys think?
