I had a manual one on my van and loved it. I could hear the turbine whistle even while it was idling, awesome. Also, boost came on a lot faster and a lot harder.

My friend had an electric one on his van (which I'm hoping to buy the setup from him and put on my talon) and he ran into boost creep issues. The electric one would creep open every so often making an annoying leaking sound. Pushing the button to the "close" position for half a second fixes it though.

I'd much rather have a boost referenced one though. Then you can have it open whenever you want if you have a little pressure tank. Also, I like dealing with pressure actuators much more than electric motors.

OMG I almost exploded in my pants when I heard the cutout. It sounds like a beast snarling. Sexy!

Hahahaha. ROFL Its soo true. You sorda don't know what to expect, and then you hear this deep growl, its catches you off guard. I wish my 4banger sounded that good. :(

I have a DMH cutout.
Welcome to DMH Performance!

There not too expensive. This one i have is about 3 yrs old, with 3yrs of every day use.
I got it from a friend after he moved on from it.
The motor burnt out on me about 2 months ago and I bout a new replacement motor from DMH for about 40 bucks Ive just been to lazy to install it , so ive been reaching under the car from the drivers seat and popping the cutout plate open and closed with a long flat head screw driver.

I think it offers good power considering my cutout is coming right off of my 3in megan dp dumping under the car like a open DP setup. Its pretty driveable even when open, mines is open about 65 % of the time and I daily drive this car.
There are a lot of pros and cons of a cutout, but i will say it has gotten me out of a few situations, because i still have a stock muffler in the back so when i close mines im stock again ;)

I dont have any vids or pics of the cutout opening and closing , but i do have this video of my first time when i went to the dyno i did a test with it closed, then a test with it opened.

This video is a little old now, but mind you this isnt a high reading dyno jet, and i have sense installed a fp manifold, 272s cams, retuned it, and increased boost another 3 psi since this video took place, so im sure im over 300awhp now on pump on my 16g.

( Im aware that the car has bad isc motors and needs a paint job thanks...LOL.)

Not bad. How did you pull off a higher tq than hp number. I've not seen that much on our cars?? Good job either way. :thumb:

I dont know. Thats just what it made. Maybe because of the exhaust dumping or the fact that my evo3 is ported. I dont think its that odd, a healthy 4g63 engine whether stroked or not, thats under 400 whp shouldnt have no trouble producing higher torque peak then hp peak. I dont even have my cyclone intake manifold installed yet.
Though i did look at other ppls numbers who made around the same power as me, and most of them had lower torque than me even with a good 30 whp more... It may not be that way now with these cams. so I doubt my torque is higher than my hp peak anymore. My power band is going to be a lot more linear now and I can honestly say im probably laying down easily another 30-50 awhp than i was on that dyno. So I should at least have 300awhp right now on my 16g which isnt bad...

Meh, I'm sure I will eventually, but I'm running out of money and I figure I could make this work for track day and some nights for friends. It should help a lot though. I have a friend who got a cutout and gained like 3 lbs/min.

You might as well just dump the cutout right there at the downpipe and have a stock exhaust. That is how I have it except no cutout just v band. Plus if you have a stock exhaust you either want to be sleeper or don't want the cops seeing it. There is no point to have it sticking out the bumper in that case. Electric cutouts are to expensive and leak often, you hit a bump and it's done.

It's fun to make a cop feel stupid for pulling you over though. Run by him with it open, pulls you over, close it and prove to him exhaust works perfectly and he got the wrong car ROFL

Becareful doing that... Dont make him so suspicous to the point were he checks out what you've got going on for himself and finds you have something very illegal on there...

You've just got to know your area, and be very smart about when to open and close it without showing off nor opening and closing it everywhere you go. Keep it simple..

Cops are too stupid to know what an electric cutout is anyways. All you'd have to say is "My car is stock, sir. Sorry, you've pulled over the wrong guy". It's not illegal to have an electric cutout anyways, as long as it is not open no highways.

Electric cutout saved my ass on a number of occasions. I had at least seven or eight run-ins with cops in which I was doing something stupid, doing a pull or flying around a corner and had a cop see me from a distance and come after me to give me an exhaust ticket. They would pull in behind me and I'd close the cutout, putting the car back on the stock exhaust. They'd sit there on my ass for 30 seconds or a minute looking confused then they'd slow down and pull off or turn around in disappointment. I laughed like a madman every time. ROFL

I have one, when I get my car aout again I will make a movie.

Possible problems. You get boost spike/creep at least I do. Internal gate pte 60-1. Closed crimp bent 3 in exhaust 15 psi. Open hits 20 falls to 19. The turbo is way more responsive its like haveing a 60-1 on then with a flick of a switch a evo 16g. over all spool is slower hence its still a bigger turbo but open exhaust response is similar to my closed crimp bent 3'' 16g. It's right after the megan dp I had to cut a bit off even. Its loud, and you can hear the turbo way better. It also shakes the seat of your pants a bit. Its quite thrilling actually. I open and close the cut out like 3 times just for fun when I am just going to work.

The first night I put it on it was a pain in the ass. Took me and a friend 6 hours on jack stands with a grinder and a flux core welder. I was running like 23 psi then I opened the cut out and it would spike 34 and fall to 30. HOLY SHIT. I went from like 42 lbs per min calibrated maft to 50. It started to lose a bit of traction in third.

My girlfriend will have a megan dp qtp cut out and a stock exhaust soon. That will cost like 400 bucks for an exhaust that flows better than a 4 inch weighs less and sounds like stock. Might even keep the stock cat for noise reasons.

Thats because you have better luck then me Jordan.
My luck the officer would crawl under the car looking for something and i would have to do a launch on his forehead.. :p

I bought a QTP cutout planning to put it in my 1g GSX. A guy I work with just got the same QTP installed, and there really wasn't much room to put it. He had to have it installed closer to the rear of the car towards the front of the rear suspension.

I'm wanting to get the most out of the cut out with my 60 trim. Would it still be worth if I have to put it more to the rear of the car?? I have a Tsudo ebay catback, and when you look down the outlet of the muffler, it looks to be breathing through a 2 in opening.
He's lowered, and I'm not and don't plan on it.

Also this doesn't really matter, but I have a resonator in place of the cat, and I was wanting my cutout to be in front of it so it would be louder. :)

Anyone of pics of cutouts on 1g AWDs???

Picked up a electric throttle body off of a 2004 grand prix (turns out they are around for nearly free due to the grand prix kids using the superchargers off these motors).

I have modded the gears so that it will close all the way (quick dremel action) and then made a little connector that hooks directly to the motor, so I dont have to spoof the plastic controller box.

Who wants to take bets this thing melts off there on my first long trip?

BTW its a full 75MM throttle body and blade, AKA 3inches on the nose. The $250 QTP electric cutout is made of the same grade aluminum, and has a stainless blade JUST like this throttle body has. I am guessing if the motor can at least pretend to keep up, it will work great, but I have a few plan b's if the motor fails. Basically I will use a Vac operated "wastegate" sorta thing that will open the blade for me when I see more than 2psi of boost.

Modded for full close.

Good luck with this. I have a cutout on my exhaust and it's great, but you'll probably want to stay with a manual switch so you can close it when you want to. It's really loud when opened up!

Its spring loaded!!!

I am fabbing up the brackets for it soon, the boost switch is in and working.

So i found this on eBay

I know ATP has this one

But the one i saw on eBay has a better design and it would be bolt on to my set up

The thing is that i would like to have the boost controlled cutout instead of the electric
since the electric cutout motor doesn't close the valve tightly and it will eventually fail me.
Plus no need for wiring and don't need to bother opening it

Looking at that pictures which internal wastegate would serve me best ?

OWNED by my self ...

$40 shipped

next would be to fab the bracket for the wastegate....

This would be cool, if i already didn't have a 3inch open downpipe dumped into the great oasis of Kentucky.
