My car gets hot after i turn it off for a few minutes. The car runs normal most of the time but if i go turn it off and run into a store or something when i turn it back on it is HOT. the temp guage it at the last line right before the red. But after a minute the temp goes back down to normal. Also the other day i came home put my car in the garage, well later on i noticed that the floor has coolant on it! So i look for a leak and cant find one! Could this be from the overflow tank?. I had to put more coolant in after that aswell.

thanks.

More than likely the coolant on the floor was out of the overflow from the car being hot, are you still using a factory temp gauge? Does the car get hot when it sits an idles? Have you checked your coolant to water mixture?

Does it stay "normal" while moving and then heat up while stopped at a light, etc.?
What are the ambient temps where you're at?
How long has this been going on?

The cooling system has several components that could cause your symptoms...bad thermostat, bad fan, clogged/corroded "innards", etc..

Well it has ben about 60 during the day here. I used 50/50 mix to fill it up. I have 2 fans that turn on, i can hear them. It is normal maybe a little cool sometimes while driving and at a light it will get a tiny bit hotter for a sec then go back to normal. Then when i shut it off the temp guage is in the middle at normal operating temp, But when i come back 2 minutes later its almost in the red.
thanks,

Also i want to wire the fans to be always on but i cant figure it out.

Take it from personal experience here!. !!DONOT!! wire your fans to run with out the Key in the On position! :nono: And Donot have them run continuosly! that will only aggrivate the problem, and kill your fans. :nono:

Back in the day when I was young and dumb, I did exactly what you are asking for. Want to know what happend? :shhh:

I had a Fuel line rupture. Truck cought Fire. I pulled over. Turned truck off, Hopeing that since its a mechanical Fuel pump the fire would ease up enough that I could smother it. WRONG! The very second the key turned off, The engine heat soaked. The fans turned on and I had a raging inferno! We are talking 10 foot flames here! out both sides of the fender weels. The Fire was pulling Fuel through the lines itself, both the feed and return lines!.

Needless to say. It burnt EVERYTHING that wasn't Steel or Iron! and I do mean EVERYTHING! :notgood:

If you have heat problems find the source and fix it!. DON'T bandade the problem by jacking around with your fans! You are inviting disaster!

^Agreed. Make sure you bleed the air out of your coolant system and I'd use 70/30 considering that its 60* where you live right now. Make sure you only add distilled water; not tap. If it's still a problem, I think it might be your thermostat.

+2!! Not using only distilled water will clog your radiator. It will develop calicum-like deposits and clog your cores where you will be forced to less then half of your radiator capacity for heat disapation. I had to swap mine out and tore the old core apart to confirm the blockage.
